I'm wondering about one thing, how to estimate number of machines stores have on the shelves?
I have been to two electronic supermarkets and both had really big piles of xb1:s and ps4:s (but both stores had just a single wii-u)
My guess is that they keep a big stock preparing for Christmas sales.
And now how to estimate number of ps4:s and xb1 on shelves.
Probably only MS and Sony can know how many they produced, and how many of those that contacted their servers.
So if someone say 2 mil ps4:s on shelves are impossible, how do they know/calculate that?

The second fiscal quarter just ended and the companies announced how many of their products were shipped (produced in their factories and then sent to retailers). Since there is a ~2 million discrepancy between VGCs numbers for the PS4 and Sony's shipment numbers, VGC assumes that 2 million PS4's are on shelves at retailers, since VGC tracks sold numbers.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more PS4's or Xbox One's on shelves than Wii U's though. That's the case at every store I go to. 2 million PS4's out there seems like a stretch, but considering that almost any Saturn or MediaMarkt around my are has roughly 80 - 120 PS4's on display at any given time, it COULD be possible. It's unlikely though.

Maybe there is some analytics guy out there that have a decent model to calculate that (ioi? certainly not paxter).

I tried to do some calculations myselft - naturally very hard to do without decent data. Some online stores do actually display their stock so I could get some indications about stock situation, that coupled with watching piles of boxes in stores give some indication (though hard to know how many boxes are just empty display boxes and how many more boxes might be in some room in the back).

From that I did some extrapolations to scale up to country level (online stores + physical store), then extrapolating again to world level (with some guesses thrown in to adjust for market sizes in variuos countries / parts of the world) (by now error margin is many hundred percents :)

From this sketchy calculation, 2 million sounds reasonable.

Again, I know these numbers are pretty worthless and prove absolutely nothing because they are founded on mud (or something even less firm)

This is all just to troll the 10 Week Countdown.

Lol, maybe Brett is reading this very thread and laughing his ass off as we speak (write).

PS4 and XB1 adjusted down? That... doesn't make much sense, to put it lightly.

PS4 still over 250k undertracked when Sony announced 10m. Why even bother pretending these numbers are close to correct...

that will never and cant be changed

its because of the WoW tracking system. u just cant put some numbers to that week alone. that would affect all other weeks, too
but hey it was also only an sony guestimate. maybe it was off 250k :D

So this would mean the PS4 has got to be over 13.5 mil right now right with all the undertracking

That's what the shipped figure was at the end of September, so I suppose it's possible. I doubt all of those will have sold already though.

I would imagine they are ramping up shipments NOW and thats what everyone is seei g on shelves. IMO shipments from the end of Sept are long gone.

Bold : Oh come on! It's not like they can't just smear the 250k across all weeks for ROW and each country, let's just give you a very easy and simple example on how it could be done. Say we have 10 countries in ROW (I know there's more, but for the benefit of maths), which includes Russia, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Tailand, S.Korea and Egypt. say Russia is the biggest market with 20% market share out of those countries and Indonesia is the smallest with 3%, then you add 20% of 250k ( 50k) to Russia and 7.5k to Indonesia. You then smear this number across the 12/13 weeks between the 10m announcement and the 7m announcment (BTW is the 7m announcement correct?) which gives you 20k added onto every week, nothing too radical no? This could be used to get people of off ioi's back, whilst keeping the numbers sensible, whislt waiting for further evidence as to where the numbers actually are.

Italic : Oh please stop this bullshit rhetoric.

Do you think it can push out 20 million for the year since its launch? Or close to a year if we include all holiday sales.

As crazy as it is to say, yes. If 13.5 is accurate end of Oct then it should get pretty colse. You do have to factor in MS new incentive to buy a Xbox which could eat Into the sales. But I say no less then 18.5 and no more than 20.5
