I really liked Alpha Centauri and most the civilization games. How does this compare so far? Does it feel like some of the games reskinned or does it really feel like it's own game?

It does feel like Alpha Century + Civilization V (+all the expension) but minus the story of Alpha Century.

if you are looking for a new Alpha century sequel you will not get it on Beyond earth, Beyond Earth  is more of Alpha century coated with current gen graphic and added more gameplay choice and more mechanic (but not that much) with Civilization V style, you will not get a surprise factor like when you play Alpha Century for the first time. overal is a good games but  i say is just like another  expension of :) Civilization or some say is  like a ambitious mod for Civ V.

That my review for this games :)

What the hell did hollygamer just say? Anyways, it doesn't have the same "feel" as Alpha Centauri but it's decent so far and has a TON of potential IMO.

Have you mostly been playing single player? How's the multiplayer?

I've never played a multiplayer game of CIV in my life lol. The different victory conditions it seems to me would make fighting over certain pieces of land and resources very interesting I would think. It may need some balance and fine tuning and maybe extra conditions or something but it seems like it could be interesting.

I've only done a little multiplayer on civ myself because it really has a different dynamic.

Yea I'd imagine it does, I've just never gotten around to it personally.

I have been playing it. Only SP, I also don't dabble in Civ MP at all.

I love the game. I like the aliens and the unique relationships that result from them. I have been at war with someone in my game for like 150 turns because I slaughter every single alien I see.

Thanks for the feedback everyone I'll try the demo on steam

I've been playing it since it came out, yet only for half an hour to an hour at a time. Maybe Civ is just not that addictive to me anymore. It's not like Alpha Centauri, you don't get to design your own units. (You only get to make minor adjustments to their stats by leveling up) It's mostly civ with different graphics and aggressive overpowered barbarians aka aliens. (Man those aliens hate trade vessels)

It does have some nice differences in the form of quests, or rather questions. You get lots of little choices to give certain buildings small modifiers, extra food, energy (gold), production or culture. There are a lot of buildings btw, takes forever to build them all. You have the 3 affinity levels, harmony, purity, supremacy, which determine the end course of your game and how others respond to you. Diplomacy is all the same, unreasonable demands and all. City states are replaced with outposts you can trade with for a while. The tech tree, or rather circle, has some nice extrapolations from our current tech. Nothing really exotic though. Wonders are lacking.

It's nice, not revolutionary. Feels like a big mod.
