Yes this is a pre prediction. Other than USA preorders and pure hype, there is little info for me to go off of. But I believe that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will sell more than Super Smash Bros. Melee. This is just a pre prediction so there is little evidence, but the fanbase for Smash almost doubled on the Wii version, and if this one gets better ratings I'm sure it will do better. Plus I'm fairly sure Wii U will sell more than GC so that will just seal the package of Smash U selling more than Melee. But hey, they're both great games for sure! Tell me what you guys think!

Maybe although a real bold prediction would be U > Brawl but granted, thats going to the realm of cray cray

But yea, I think it will happen

Not going to happen as a stand alone game. Maybe if they drop the price of the console to $199.99 and bundle SSB with it. But as is? No way.

bold it is.

Almost. I suppose it could stand to be a little more bold.

It could happen. I definitely see absurd amounts of hype for this game and I think it'll be a massive system-seller. However, I believe Melee kept selling for years (I think it still does, doesn't it?) because of its competitive relevance, which I think will be unmatched by Smash 4 - even if it still is way more competitive than Brawl.

I do think, though, that Smash will become the best-selling Wii U game in the end, just like Melee did.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. But I think MK8 will have better legs. Melee only sold better than Double Dash because it was released 2 years earlier. Without that 2 year head start, it wouldn't of outsold Double Dash.. So the only thing I say differently is MK8 will in the end outsell smash bros u, I could be wrong I'm just pointing something out

The public opinion has let me down before, so I can definitely see this happen.

I don't consider it likely though. Super Smash Bros. Melee managed to sell extremely well on a poorly selling console because of its top-notch gameplay, which is the reason why the game is still growing on Twitch.tv and the number of tournament participants is still growing worldwide. Same can't be said about Brawl, which is now practically gone from the competitive scene. And we all (who have done some basic research on gameplay mechanics) know that Smash 4 is more similar to Brawl than anything else.

Even if Wii U sells 40-50 million units lifetime, I still wouldn't find it more likely than Melee remaining on top. Brawl sold more because of Wii's massive success. Wii U won't give Smash 4 the same advantage.
