Forums - Sony Discussion - Whoa!! Kojima: "Blu-ray Disc Not Big Enough for MGS4″

If that does not fit, then why not use the 100GB Blu-ray disc?

 They are still in their prototype stages, haven't been released.

Sony claims a firmware upgrade will allow the PS3 to use later BD discs (4 and 8 layer discs).

@zackblue, 100GB blu-ray discs are still not done.

@kingofwale

To read a 100GB disk the PS3 would require a FW update, Sony confirmed that the drive is able to handle the size, but the PS3 itself would need to be told how to use it. As it stands 50GB can be read without doing anything :D

 It's a prototype still

He wants higher quality by not compressing the crap out of everything like they do on dvd.

 Is kinda of interesting, I remember some interview where he said something like "the game can fit perfectly on a dvd, but Sony is requesting too much content in 1080 (probably talking about pre-render videos)"... so, maybe this is just PR, or there is too much video at 1080 and too little game (Like others MGS...)

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender

HOLY SHIT!! haha if it can't fit on a 50gb blu ray disk, good luck getting it on a 9gb DVD!! hahaha

Does anyone know why the 100GB Prototypes aren't done, they were announced way back in 2005, you'd think they'd have fixed all the problems by now.

Kojima games are always super high quality so I wouldn't be surprised, the uncompressed audio probably took a lot of it

Hmm...I've heard of this doubling thing and all that because of access times on Blu-ray but it doesn't make any sense to me. The transfer rate for the disc drive will still be the same...so doubling up shouldn't do anything, right?

EDIT: That was directed at DarkNight....why aren't my quotes working correctly?

You have to use the quote button underneath a post.

From what I remember hearing about the blu-ray discs is that there are different access times from the inner edge of the disc to the outer edge of the disc. Doubling it up allows a quicker seek time. Someone who knows more about will be better equipped to explain it to you, than I am.
