Forums - Gaming Discussion - Consoles sometimes come very close to PC at the graphic department at times

Are consoles according to you capable of mindblowing visuals

No only PC can do that 4 8.89%

Go home peasant you're clearly drunk 9 20.00%

Uncharted 4 teaser looked fucking epic 17 37.78%

The only reason that Infa... 1 2.22%

Sony/MS exclusives never ... 5 11.11%

All of the console exclus... 9 20.00%

Total:45

Even though I always was convinced that the PC is in every way a leap ahead of the consoles during this gen, I really start to doubt if that will matter. I probably going to catch hell for this but so be it. But hear me out, multiplatform titles will always look better on pc as will large world RPG´s. But games like driveclub and Infamous Second Son have proven to me that a console game can look better than a pc game. One of the best examples remain the definitive edition of tomb raider, which actually looks better on next gen, than on max settings pc. People saying this gen will be maxed out soon are wrong, this gen won´t be maxed out anytime near since pc itself has never even be close to be used efficiently, due to the many setups.

So how about some proof. Infamous second son

Versus Watch Dogs Max

So I think it´s pretty safe to say that the graphics of (exclusive) console games can actually get close to most PC games, mostly because no-one cares about optimizing for the platform, but that is none of my concern. With games like Halo 5 and Uncharted 4 and the order which will probably run in 30fps, the graphics will come close to most pc games, which are in most cases lazy ports. Do you think this gen will remain some sort of close to pc graphics due to the better artistically stylized exclusives or will pc overrun consoles in about a year when it comes to graphic and it will be ps360 versus pc all over again.

Or and this is a dangerous option, graphics on pc will be better but are just a bit extra and consoles looks damn acceptable. In the theorie that consoles have made their last graphical leap, because double the power won't mean much more than more AA, a bit better shadows and a higher resolution.

From your choice of screenshot, I think its safe to say that cherry picking can accomplish anything.

Compare the same game across the different platforms and see how well your theory holds up.

If you read the actual thread I said that MP games will always look better on PC, this thread is about console exclusive versus PC. Which should according to it's fanbase beat every console game with a significant margine on max settings. If I may recall an example used in the thread compare tomb raider pc max, versus Definitive edition. PC's where in that time already much stronger than consoles yet publishers only care for console optimisation, which lead to the opinion of me and a few others that the definitive edition looks better than the pc version on max which is already running on specs which will barely be topped by the PS5.

Your watch dogs screenshot isnt the game "maxed out", wtch dogs got crippled to console settings, see above to compare console settings to the true, unlocked pc version.

Even the non-unlocked screenshots above are higher settings than the one you used.

I'm not going into this thread armed with screenshots and stuff.

I'm going to say that the console versions were probably more well-optimized than the PC version.

Even so the game still doesn't wipe the floor with Infamous second son and second son comes pretty damn close due to better optimisation and an arguably better artstyle, oh and fair enough neon powers also help. But they still count.

so your argument is basically "console games look beter than pc games, as long as theyre exclusive and thus optimized", and then you use a multiplatform game for the pc comparison?

Surely the logical and fair comparison would be either to use multiplatform vs multiplatform, or exclusive vs exclusive.

Here i will even help.

Well... If you take into account the lazy ports of third party vs optimizations of the first party, then sure, an unoptimized third party game on PC might look somewhat "close" to a fully optimized first party game on ps4 although at max settings will be very arguable. And, if you take the mods for PC games into account, then its not even close. Also, with dx12 letting developers have low level access to api on the PC front, it might just blow it out of the water regardless when dx12 comes out

I think when a game is actually optimized for PC or if there is mod support, then there is zero competition and its quite easy to see which one has the far superior graphics like if you look at StarCitizen for example which is a veryyyy high graphiced PC exclusive and its still on like on its alpha stages or something, yet, it looks amazing!

So, all in all, I think it will be similar to the ps3/360 vs PC stuff all over again... I mean heck, Ubisoft is already complaining with the cpu and it hasn't even been a year yet. (although, there are other weird things surrounding their statement so w.e.)

Can come close to pc, I'd never said better (exept for the tomb raider, but we all know that is a one time only) and are not wiped the floor with as the so called master race claims since the console where anounced. And as I said in the thread MP will always looks better on PC, since the extra power should be used on something the better AA, lighting, Higher RES and better shadows will always make sure pc looks better on MP titles. But that wasn't the idea behind the thread, the idea behind the thread was that optimised exclusives can still show amazing graphics which sometimes even meet pc levels. And if you want exclusive vs exclusive, here's the best LOOKING console game till date.

but youre still comparing a highly optimized console exclusive, with a mediocre port job.

see above screenshots for pc exclusives.
