Forums - General Discussion - "I Swear, I Wasn't Planning To Spend That Much. O.O "

So, as a fellow gearing up to get a PS4 this holiday season, step one was, unfortunately, acquire a new television, as the one I owned was a standard definition, fat-backed, older unit. It was an irritating expense on top of what was already going to be a five hundred dollar console purchase, taxes in, but meh, I decided to keep an eye open for any deals; the town I live in is a bit on the small side, at least compared to my home of Ottawa, and so we don't get super crazy deals here on a regular basis, even during the holidays. As such, when I sifted through a flier for the local electronics store and saw a modestly sized 720p television for about a hundred and eighty nine bucks, I decided what the heck, good enough, I don't need anything super fancy.

So I was on my way up there, and started browsing through the flier again, mostly to pass the time. Just as I was entering the store, I reached the back of it, only to be greeted with another television, in a section different from the one the rest of the televisions had occupied; this one bigger, sharper, and (in my opinion,) only moderately more expensive. As it so happens, they had only one left.

Long story short, was going there to grab a modest 28 inch, 720p television, and ended up with a 40 inch, 1080p instead. I'm actually writing my post using it as my monitor. =D Which does feel kinda overkill, but pfffft.

Anyway, any tales where you walked into a store, intending to pick up something very specific, right down to the price tag in mind, but through either a combination of circumstance, lack of self control, or basic 'Squee I Wants,' ended up with something that was not only completely different, but substantially more expensive than you had intended?

I once... You know what? Better keep this story to myself.

Oh my God. So you're using that as a monitor - Like, a desktop monitor? O.O 40 inches.

If not, still duuuuuude, gotta use discipline when in the tv shop. No impulse purchases. Slap yourself in the face if you have to.

Blah, didn't realize I hadn't included General Discussion in my Hot Topics filters. >_<

Technically, it's my monitor for everything. TV, PS3, PC, Netflix, etc, etc. Have all my monitor-using devices hooked up to it, and going to add my PS4 whenever I acquire it; kinda figured 'Hey, why play Sins of a Solar Empire's Star Trek Armada 3 mod on my dinky little PC monitor when I can see my glorious Galaxy class starship in all its big, beautiful glory? @.@ '

And I knoooow. x3 But in my defense, it was more like an incremental shift. I was already planning to pick up the 28 inch for about 199.00 (plus tax and fees,) so when I saw the forty incher for 279 (plus tax and fees,) it was a LOT more tempting to bump up my mental figure by eighty bucks than it would have been to go from 0 to 279.

(Late reply, LOL sorry, you prob won't see this)

Not as bad as I intially thought since it's your everything display. As long as you sit at least a few feet away from the screen, your setup is good. (Unless you're short-sighted, or it's a preference, heh) In the end, though, not a bad deal; 279 for a 40incher, and your point that you fought a worse temptation is a good sign. ;)

That's what they all say! I admit I'm guilty of that as well....

While going on a trip to buy a game for my then-new 3DS, I chanced upon a deal; for a T100. So, I bought it. Then, I realized that the Lumia 630 was now out, and I was phone-less, so I bought that. Then, I realized that I wanted speakers, so...I spent even more. By the time I was actually going to buy the game, I ran out of cash.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I once bought an extra bag of potato chips when I was at my local grocery store. I still regret that purchase to this day! After all, it was a scam. Half of the bag was filled with air. :/
