I don't think he changed it.  I think the problem is that we have two "Xbox One instead of PS4" threads dominating the forum right now.  People think they're posting in one when 'they're really in the other.

In my head, Microsoft has always been a man.  You could invite Microsoft over for a beer, play a game of pool, talk about football, bake muffins, or give each other manly massages.  It's not that I don't respect women.  I just can't call a company that is so obviously masculine by such a feminine abbreviation.

It's all a facade. Micro comes from microscopic (something that is too small for the unaided eye), and soft from... soft. Something that is small and soft can't be considered manly.
