Forums - Gaming Discussion - PlayStation Now price drops

Not sure if anyone has noticed but it seems a majority of PS Now prices have dropped to something way more reasonable. Atleast it feels that way. I dont have comparative data.

Good. It only really worked for me late at night. But, I do not have the fastest internet.

Maybe it's my internet but when I was renting a game on my PS4 it was a little blurry. (Dead Island). I really do wanna rent more games like Ratchet and Clank: Into The Nexus, God of War Ascensions, and Just Cause 2 but that won't happen until I get faster internet tho.

As far as the prices.....still seems too high, especially for 4 hour rentals.

This service would remain irrelevant until sony sees that a 7 day rental should cost $2.99. Thats the sweet spot of entry as far as I am concerned.

Having said that, I really don't understand publishers. They of all people should know that after a year on the market full, half or even a quarter price sales of their games practically becomes non existent. They should at least be willing to drop the price of their games to as little as $20 after a year. Kinda a no brainer one would think. Unless they just like their games sitting ons shelves or in the bargain bin.

Agreed. PS Now should be the same price, or less, as renting the physical game from your local video rental store. Though here a 7 day rental for a new release game would be quite expensive, and most video stores only rent new releases for a day at $5 or $7, or 3 days for $10. Older games normally rent for $5 for a week.

Ouch when you put it that way then PSnow doesn't sound so bad anymore. I can see what sony basically did. They just took the one week rental price of $5/week and added the cost/convenience of streaming and made it $8.

Whatever the case though, if they want the service to pick up, they have to cut their prices down.

If i were them, I would make every game available for rental 12-18 months after release and at $2.99/week. Do that for the first 3 years then when I get a following and proper market presence, I would hike the price up to $5/ week.

I think I would like PS Now if it had a Netflix-stlye subscription for unlimited access. I've never been a fan of renting games. I've only ever done it once... But thank goodness I only rented it, instead of buying! (It was DBZ Sagas)

Something like $9.99 a month sounds reasonable, and maybe a slight discount ($8.99) for PS+ members?

An all you can eat subscription should be based around an estimate of how many games the average subscriber would play in a month, with a small discount for the long term commitment. I don't know if $10 per month would be a good reflection of that sort of approach.

I wouldn't see the average consumer renting more than 1 or 2 games a month on average anyway. Netflix is able to get away with $8 a month (The recent price increase is more to do with net neutrality issues)
