Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata responds to region locking questions

Well he was pretty honest about it. Didn't try to spin it or anything. The motivation was for the seller, not the consumer, doing something to benefit the consumer could benefit the seller, they'll consider it, but they have to work around the things that originally motivated it in the first place, copyright, localization, and marketing efficiency. We all know that last one is probably the most important to them, and Microsoft solved it much faster because they have a lot more money they can put into marketing.

Actually his "reason" was a humongous piece of crap. How does he explain why the DS was region free?

If they don't want is OK for me but Nintendo should bring all the Japanese underrated games comes to western market no matter what, if the are seeking profit and market. Hello Nintendo you have been in this Industry longer then PS and Xbox, you know we have missed so many good title from Japan. OMG i wish i can write something to Iwata :(

let me translate..

everything is region locked fuck you.

The "we may considerate in the future" answer is a non answer - they are not saying yes, they are. It saying no- they are saying nothing -

They took that risk with the DS. They didn't with this generation. Can't let a positive Nintendo comment go, can you? I wasn't even being that positive, just saying he admitted it was financially motivated. So tell me then, if it wasn't for the seller, then what do YOU think region locking was for? How do YOU explain why the DS was region free? Let me guess, because Nintendo is evil and stupid and wants everyone to be sad and not buy their products? But with the DS they were not evil and smart? I really don't get what you want him to say. He flat out admits the reason was for the seller, and that they're only considering this now because it seems like being region free could benefit both. Now where might they have gotten that idea? Perhaps from seeing the difference between the DS and 3DS?

No, it's a piece of crap because the other console manufacturers, and Nintendo themselves in the past didn't care about those "circumstances on the sellers side" so why would they start now?

Maybe they will, maybe they wont. Well, that wasn't very informative. :(

Let me translate this from business speak into English.

"We know that it's fair to the costumer, but we don't care."

"On my business card I am a corporate president. In my mind I am a game developer. But in my heart I am a gamer." - Satoru Iwata

Let me translate this for the people that did not understand.

"Hau bloß ab mit dem Mist. Wir können damit nichts anfangen."

:)

lmao... what a load of bullcrap... Other consoles have been region-free since like... forever.

Nintendo: there's a a lot of difficulties with region-free, so no. And let's throw in the history of gaming consoles in there so that our excuse sounds better.
