Sony is holding its earnings call for overseas investors and analysts with Chief Financial Officer Kenichiro Yoshida, Senior Vice President Hiroki Totoki and Corporate Control Department General Manager Kazuhiko Takeda.

During the call Yoshida-san explained that PlayStation Plus has now reached 7.9 million subscribers even thanks to the momentum following the launch of of Destiny by Activision and FIFA 15 by Electronic Arts.

It was also mentioned that Sony is currently evaluating the game business in China and intends to enter the local market early next year, but it’s taking a cautious, step-by-step approach as the Chinese market is heavily regulated. No comment was offered, despite the direct question, about contacts with the retail giant Alibaba, with which Sony is in talks for other segments of the business.

This must be exciting for sony, going from like ~1 million to 7.9 million subs in a year.

On the other hand, xbox live already had a ton of subscribers, so there's would be a less drastic increase, albeit an increase

Regardless, very good news for PS4 seeing PS+ rise.  I thought PS4 was releasing in China December though?

Even though it's required for online. Not everyone is gonna get it. I'm discontinuing mine. I never have the time for online. And since the games aren't actually owned. I don't bother with them anymore. DC games shouldn't of region locked their stuff on PS. My friend sold his PS4. After we couldn't play anything together. So I stopped my PS+ sub.

Great numbers. And I can't wait to see the Chinese launch numbers next year. It's a whole new market for Sony.
