Its not downplaying.  its an important industry fact,

the gaming industry is smaller for Ninty and Sony.

It demands more acumen and business sense to make a sustainable model where you dont have new hardware cycles every couple of years.

You mean like the PS1? And the PS2? I think you're forgetting that they've already succeeded in a smaller industry.

When other areas of the business where profitable.  Its a different world and a different Sony now. There is a very good reason why subscription services will be the main focus, digital is the future and gaming as a service will eventually kill consoles.

That's funny, I don't remember you saying that until after the XBO started selling poorly... Now it doesn't matter how well PS4 sells right because all consoles are going to die one day? I wonder if the XBO was winning in sales would you be saying the same thing?

yes I know people here dont want to hear it but they all mocked me for years when I said mobile would kill handhelds and ultimately affect consoles too...

Because you've never had a wrong prediction right?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I thought WiiU was dominating before I came here

Intersting isnt it... that despite this it will still be one of the lowest years ever for playstation shipments.

2nd lowest in the last 8 years.

Just think about that.

Sony had a successful handheld last gen. Now, like Microsoft, a majority of the shipments are from their console business. I don't see how that's interesting, everyone knows the Vita is doing poorly. You don't have to downplay every bit of good Sony news you know.

How is mobile going after the consoles when the current dominant consoles is the fastest selling one ever? I can see the connection between handhelds and mobile and how can one affect the other, but consoles are compelty different type of hardware, how could mobile replace them?

And its not that tthe industry is getting smaller, its just that 2/3 of console manufacuters fucked up their badly and the market is responding accordingly

Retailers are Sony's customers, not you. They are able to track their shipments as they fulfill orders and rely on tracking services like NPD and Media Create for the number of consoles purchases at retailers by end users.

So basically what you're saying is that retailers paid Sony for the shipments they received....which in turn Sony made revenue off of that, right?! Right...

Same thing with Xbox and the 5 1/2 million, correct?

It is.  Nintendo and MS so low is obviously the main reason.

Next quarter will be interesting.

Fixed.  Nintendo and MS are only 7% apart.

Success from hype 2013.

GG.

Lol. Didn't Nintendo win E3 this year? Where's that hype?

If they had that hype back in Launch year......that would be very effective and Wii U would sell much much more.

Start's are incredibly important.

Gamers must've been too satisfied with their Wii's to upgrade to the Wii U, specially if they owned a 360/PS3 along with a Wii.

Very impressive numbers and it's great that Sony didn't combine PS4 and PS3 shipments. I'm excited to see how much better Sony will do with the PS4 next year because it has a truckload of exclusives coming its way.

If they hade competitive hardware and all the big multi platform games it might have given them an larger install base, but now most people are interested in PS4 and XOne and they don't care for games that don't release on their system of choice. No system to play the game = no hype.

If you can get almost everything there and the most power for cheap why wouldn't you get that console?

because it still doesn't have anything that interests me and is still expensive with features I could care less about?.

Other two are offering me games I want, features are still meh but at least there's something those two are providing me and then there's PC for their exclusives and Indies that come first and then to the other 3 platforms so I'm more covered there than I would ever be on a PS4.
