Forums - Gaming Discussion - So Nintendo Q2 profits > Sony gaming division Q2 profits

Which company will have better results come fiscal year end in 2015?

Sony 88 20.00%

Microsoft 82 18.64%

Nintendo 225 51.14%

Ouya 45 10.23%

Total:440

Apparently, from what I could read, Nintendo had net profit of 222M for the second quarter of their fiscal year, whilst Sony gaming division posted a net profit of about 200M (I didn't read their reports, just what is being posted over the internet, if it's incorrect please tell me).

Nintendo had negative results for their first quarter and Sony had positive results so as of right now Sony has the edge.

So, come Q4 next year will Nintendo or Sony gaming division have better results?

I have no information about xbox division, but I'll add it to the poll anyway. If anyone have information on their performance please share.

Discuss, that's an order!! :D

Well Sony will have massive holiday sales for both hardware and software so I think they will outprofit Nintendo comfortably

Sure, but it wont come down to just quantity of units sold. Q2 PS4 outsold WiiU 5.5 to 1 if I'm not mistaken, yet Nintendo was able to edge out Sony financially. Now imagine Nintendo had sold just as many WiiU has Sony did PS4s (and the same thing goes for software), how would the financial go?

Nintendo and Sony have completly different approaches to the gaming business. All that marketing, exclusive deals with developers, bundles, etc, cost a lot of money, I mean a lot. Yet Sony can compensate that with lots and lots of units sold. In fact, they need lots ands lots of units sold to turn profit. Nintendo relies on in-house developed software and hardware, with less fewer moneyhatting, marketing (except for their on products) and doesn't need that many  sales to turn profit.

I think it will be an interesting battleto see.

The PS4 install base is growing far more rapidly than the Wii U's/3DS combo, meaning Sony's ability to generate profit off that growing install base is more than Nintendo's ability to do so.

Regarding XB1, tough one because MS have stopped providing actual profit/loss statements for each segment (just keeping it to change in revenue and change in cost of revenue, which tells you little). We do know that the cost of revenue within xbox has been increasing faster than revenue since the XB1 was released, but we don't know where the tipping point is before the actual cost of revenue is higher than revenue (signifying a loss). With some massive games coming out for xbox though this Christmas, I expect MS to clean up this holiday, with the only risk being that the price cut on the XB1 and heavy bundling cuts heavily into profits.

I'm gonna go with Sony by a hair, then MS, and then Nintendo.

Nintendo, because holiday.

And that's a interesting fact! Nin> Sony $$$ in Games.

Such oxymoron since PS4> WII U

it will be interesting to see who comes out first. IIRC software is a bigger money maker than hardware.

In favor of Nintendo is the stronger software lineup (pokemon and smash), amiibos and the launch of the new nintendo 3ds.

Sony will likely sell sell shit loads of ps4 and make money from ps plus subs.

I'll say Nintendo

Sony will likely not beat Nintendo in profit. Nintendo sells a lot of their own software on the Wii U plus they have the dominant handheld where their own software drives much of its sales as well. This is why Microsoft want to "copy" Nintendo's business model. In order for Sony to beat Nintendo's profitability they may either have to resurrect the Vita lol or the PS4 has to perform Jesus style miracles in "sales" going foward.

Yeah, it'll be quite interesting to see actually. Nintendo have the bigger games (revenue wise) while Sony will sell a lot more HW and SW units...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Good for Nintendo seeing that they went cheap as always with their hardware but also good for Sony seeing as they took more risk on more powerful hardware and and are reaping the benefits. Also seeing that they are a year behind Nintendo it doesnt bother me at all.

You say resurrect Vita yet it outsold WiiU in the past quarter (700k vs. 610k).
