And it's crazy when you think it's only the first year, the second year will be much better, especially with Japan helping this time.

It could definitely stay ahead of Wii, easily

What is Japan going to help? 8-9k baseline won't matter.

No but big releases matter to raise the baseline and get good bumps in sales.

Unless you are saying the baseline will be 8-9k early in 2015 ?

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

The PS4 will not sell well in Japan; 10k, optimistically from me, will be its baseline in 2015.

In reality it will be around what its been now with TEW (which had much higher expectations than reality coffered), so 8-9k on the back of also having a new model releasing to further inflate sales. There will be blips on the radar like DQH and Bloodborne, but that's no different from blips like MK8 and Smash... they go away.

Market share in Japan is handheld/mobile lopsided as well, so that will start to become an ever bigger limiter when the Vita/PS3 are written off entirely by the 3DS/Mobile/Sony as the easy up-ports for PS4 releases will dry up as well.

Except that PS4 will have much more big system seller than Wii U so no, the baseline wont be 8-9k early in 2015, there is enough  games to prevent that , and that's only the beginning, it will get more and more games before they become exclusive.

blah blah blah. PS4 beat PS3 sales by a full yr. took PS3-360 2 yr's. ruffly.

Fantastic PS4 sales...

I don't expect it to keep up for Y15, but we have been doubting PS4 from the beggining, who knows, maybe it will surprise us.

Exactly, throw in MGS PP, KH3, FF15 and possibly DQ11 over the next few years and you have a pretty successful library to build around in Japan.

Not to mention Sony has a lot of smaller 3rd party Japanese devs at their backs, too. On top of Disgaea 5, the PS4 will get its exclusive Tales, Hyperdimension, and Atelier games. I won't be surprised if Level-5 starts jumping in, too.

That's besides the point because the market isn't just the WiiU and the PS4, and such a comparison doesn't help your case as you're trying to tell me a man is healthy by comparing him to a corpse. Home consoles as a whole are just not something the market there wants or cares about. The PS4, short of a miracle, is not going to suddenly start selling well. It may sell less bad but its still going to sell badly, its most certainly not going to have a baseline much larger than 10k and 10k is my optimistic top.

The WiiU's baseline is 4-8k depending on release titles and legs, the PS4 being 10k is better by the virtue of having more titles to maintain it but its still a crapshoot.

It's much more impressive in PS4's case, because it's doing this at a higher price and without Japan. Truly impressive.

Impressive numbers indeed! Hopefully Sony can keep this momentum up
