It soon wont be again though right? it wont match wii the next 6-12 months.

The holidays will be the deciding factor. And if there's a price cut.

Wii sold 19,508,070 by the end of 2007.  More than 4 Million were sold in December of 2007

in 2008 the Wii added another 24 million sold making it 43,595,125 sold.  Not a single month sold less than 1 million consoles in 2008 and it sold 5.5m in december of 2008

So while PS4 is doing good and it is certainly on a level that matches Wii in certain ways, the Wii was practically sold out for two years because Nintendo had no idea it would be as popular as it was.  With that said the PS4 has a lot to live up to.  You have to congratulate Sony for what they have been able to achieve but it has to keep up its pace as well.

Either way i expect PS4 will outsell Wii lifetime

THIS. Consistency matters. PS2 sold that much because of that insane library of games. I think PS4 should and can keep up once the games keep coming.

Just wait. 2008 Wii sold 24m that year I doubt PS4 will ever do over 20m if lucky

Luck would be 30, 20 it will do with out breakig a sweat.

This is a prediction I made at the end of January 2014 after we got shipment figures for Q4 CY2013. I predicted the quarterly sales of both the Xbox One and the PS4 and estimated that the PS4 would end the year on 18 million shipped and Xbox on 11.7 million shipped.

We didn't have PS4 shipment figures for a long time, but now that we do I've included a comparison of my estimates along with the actual results. Seems I was spot on for Q1 but Q2 and 3 I slightly underestimated how well PS4 would sell. Even in Q4 I put an estimate of 5.2m but I'm inclined to raise that slightly to 5.5m now. All in all I believe that my PS4 prediction has been a good one but I'm sure the PS4 will end 2014 with almost 19 million shipped worldwide, maybe even more.

My Xbox prediction has surprisingly been quite high. Whilst my predictions show that the Xbox One wasn't going to do well compared to the PS4, I never expected it to be this bad. Sure I've had to estimate shipped figures for Q2/3 but we should have under ~7.5m shipped by September 31st whilst I estimate 8 million. I still think we'll see over 3.5m Xbox One's shipped in Q4 but it's going to struggle to get significantly over 11 million.

All in all my predictions are fairly close to the actual sell in of both the PS4 and X1. However, now that we are 3 quarters in to the year I'd say the PS4 will sell in ~19 million worldwide by the end of the year and the Xbox One will sell in ~11.2m worldwide by the end of the year.

*Figures above are millions of units sold in.

It's crazy the PS4 can still hold on to the wii levels of sales at launch and will totally oblitarate it when it's in is 5th year lol

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Simple explanation,

Wii Supply constrained

PS4 not supply constrained

Wii 150$ cheaper

With motion gimmick fad

Targeting casuals and non traditional customers

With Japanese support

The Wii was still hard to find at this point in it's life.....

What does that have to do with anything? Had they shipped asnmuch as Sony they may have not been hard to find. That dosent change the sale totals.

So basiclly sony isn't doing so well compared to it cause they managed to ship more consoles than the wii did? Ok got it.

I find it funny how some poeple are so salty that they can't even accept just how well the PS4 is doing all considering.

  • $100 more expensive
  • almost non existant support from japan
  • so far selling to a demographic that is usually more independent (older) meaning they buy their own hardware and not have parents buy it for them
  • Not a console for the "casual" crowd
Anyhow the posts want to be moved the PS4 has still done very well. If it would make some here feel better, the wii will be in the lead by the end of december this year.

Both amazing feats. Though the Wii was selling out and had tougher competition. I didn't expect the ps4 to hold out quite this long. I wonder if I can find that thread

I'd actually argue the wii had no competition. The only person  i know who has a wii and no other 7th gen console is my sister and she literally just uses it to entertain guests lol

Most people had a wii plus another console. It wasn't an either or situation back then because the system was so different and equally cheap.

That's... still competition. People have limited money. So actually, a lot of people owning multiple systems could be an indication that the competition for consumers' money was fiercer.

And it's crazy when you think it's only the first year, the second year will be much better, especially with Japan helping this time.

It could definitely stay ahead of Wii, easily

What is Japan going to help? 8-9k baseline won't matter.
