Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Amiibo compatibility and limited time offers

Not every Wii U game supports all Amiibos. Here is the list of compatible amiibos from the first set:

Mario Kart 8: Mario, Yoshi, Peach, Donkey Kong

Yoshi's Woolly World: Yoshi

Mario Party 10: Mario, Peach, Yoshi

Hyrule Warriors: Link

Not all amiibo figures will be freely available. During Nintendo’s financial results briefing yesterday, president Satoru Iwata mentioned that some amiibo will be offered as “limited-time offers”.

Iwata said:

The amiibo figure lineup for “Super Smash Bros.” will continue to be released even after this year-end sales season, and we hope that this will help to update store shelves. As store shelf space is limited, some amiibo will remain stocked on the shelves as staple choices while some will be limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out.

This pretty much confirms that you can't play all nintendo characters in MK8.
Probably just some new kart parts or costumes.

Not even Link on MK8... although he isn't in the game yet. Yoshi and Mario should cover quite a few games.

And they are using the E3 prototypes in the ad, good job Ninty.

This news bodes poorly for my wallet strings.

Regarding Link and Villager in MK8...I'm sure they'll update once the DLC comes out.

This makes me really sad as well. I now have to buy all of them...

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Pretty much exactly as expected, now tell us something less obvious like, you know, what these things even do in those games to justify their $13 price tag.

Well the Smash ones are already pretty hot if you have any desire to play 8 man Smash. Most people don't invite 7 friends over to play videogames.

Inviting 3 friends over and having 4 amiibos means you can play 8 man smash in teams with or against amiibo. Some of those high level amiibo learn some pretty advanced moves too. There's the potential that you could get amiibo data from world class players you would never get to play against normally. The amiibo is potentially an amazing tool for tourney players.

After that, the amiibo doesn't have to add too much to a single game, because it can add a little bit to several games going forward.

I'll be really surprised if their isn't an amiibo-centric game or the ability to use other characters + amiibos in games like Mario Party 10 and Mario Kart 8 in the future.

I hope you're not actually suggesting we buy 7 Amiibos for $91, more than the game itself, rather than using regular computers which are way more flexible anyway since they can be any character.

Or you know, you and three friends each buy an amiibo like I said?

Besides, CPU on max is a joke compared to a good human player, whereas an amiibo can mimic humans pretty well from the little we've seen of them.

Some people are going to get a sh*tload of amiibos anyway and I say more power to them. I'm personally eyeing Mario, Link, Yoshi, Samus, and Fox because I'm pretty sure they'll all be used in multiple games I want. Mac as well because I just like him, though I'm sad to hear he's so overpowered.
