Forums - Sales Discussion - Will Sony Respond to XB1 Pricecut?

Will Sony Drop PS4 to 349?

No, they will let it ride a 399 164 39.42%

Yes 63 15.14%

No, but they will offer other incentives 189 45.43%

Total:416

I dont want them to. They will win handily without it. As proven many times in the past people buy for percieved Value not just sheer price.

If anything this works against MS. If someone wanted a PS4 it is still the same price they were already planning on paying. If someone wanted an XB1 they will be happy to pay less.

Also later adopters have to notice it is 150 bucks cheaper now than 1 year ago, many will assume waiting until next Cmas will yield similiar results (price is falling so fast people who actually carea about 50 bucks will wait on future price drops)]

I do think the gap will be narrower than it would have been without the pricecut but I expect a pretty good ass whooping by the PS4.

In the past the consoles that go "bargin bin" dont turn it around. I dont see this changing. Gamecube was like 1/2 the price of the PS2 for a while even though it had more powerful hardware and it made almost no difference.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Can they afford that?

Bargin bin ... dear lord. $400 to $350 a year after launch is not bargin bin, and I hardly see this hurting MS/XB1 ...

It would be really impressive if PS4 still won the holidays without offering a limited time discount. It would really say something about how much ground Sony recovered in the console market.

I think they can win worldwide but lose US and UK with all the discounts and bundles MS is throwing out.

I doubt they "respond" to it in that they do something because MS did this. I think they already have a holiday plan in place and will execute it as they intended regardless of the XB1 deals.

Pricecuts by retailers maybe, holiday bundles definiety, but I doubt any kind of direct thing from Sony.

I believe Sony is testing the market, if MS gains a lot of ground, they would react to it.

Yes they will respond. Maybe not by matching the price cut per se, but perhaps by offering a free game download for the holidays.

If they need to or not who knows, but i think now theyve seen the plus subscription dollars rolling in with Destiny, they will definitely discount / bundle more games this xmas, plus they've already got a new hardware sku so presumably there cheaper to make now than they were last year.

They're devaluing their product by doing constant price cuts and free game giveaways.

A product that is popular and selling well doesn't have price cuts and free game promotions every month. It doesn't need them.

BTW, the Xbox One launched at $500, not $400.
