Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can anything save us from the "can anything save the Wii U" debates?

Stop with the "can anything save the Wii U", "can wiiu outsell console X", "can Wii U this or that", and all other related BS! Seriously, enough with this nonsense.

Wii U will be saved the minute it starts turning profit for the company. So far Nintendo lost money with it, in the future they might end with a profit. That's how you define if a console was successful or not. Correct me if I'm wrong cuz I'm not sure, but I think X360/PS3 made MS/Sony both lose money. They sold over 80m units, was that a success? Sure people might have enjoyed those consoles (I know I enjoyed my PS3) but Wii U owners are also enjoying their consoles, so that alone makes the console successful i their eyes. Profitability will make it succcessful in shareholders eyes. Period.

Some people on this forums seem to believe units sold = success = company making money = owning a product better than others do = being happier with the console purchase = being a superior human being. Well newsflash people: units sold =/= success =/= company making money =/= owning a product better than others do =/= being happier with the console purchase =/= being a superior human being. Actually their even just slightly related concepts and depend on who the subject is.

We'll only know if it was successful or not at the end of its life, and even then that's from the shareholders point of view, because from the consumer's point of view I bet that for the majority of them the console is already a success. I know for me it is.

For me, personally, it's hard to go a whole generation without Nintendo, as it is to go without 3rd parties, that's why every generation I go with a combo Nintendo + Sony/MS.

Lastly, a provocative question, how do you rate a successful console:

A) The one where they deliver what they promised and then some?

B) The one where they promise 1080p 60fps, the 2nd coming (aka Watch Dogs, Destiny, Driveclub, etc) and disappoint the fans?

These threads will stop when one of the following happens:
A. The Wii U finally turnabouts
B. Nintendo states they are making a decent profit on the Wii U
C. Worst case scenario. they will continue till 2017/18 when the next Nintendo home console is announced.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

Fun fact, nintendo themselves stated that the wii U was now selling for a profit right before mk8 launch. Its pretty obvious the console will make a profit in the end which in turn makes it another successful generation for nintendo. Profits matter. In that regard ps3 failed. People basing things solely on the amount a console sells doesn't understand the full story.

Yes I want it to sell well, but more than that I want nintendo to post a profit from it when it comes to pass.

Nintendo did not say they were selling at a profit ( someone else did and they were wrong) according to direct quotes from Iwata See the Investor Q and A during the same time period -end of last fiscal year, the Wii u does not sell at a profit

The Wii u has not been a success for Nintendo, its shareholder and so far for many of its console owners-  the Wii u still has a decent chance at being a success for the majority of its owners but being a success for Nintendo and shareholders is not going to happen unless they have a massive turn around which it does not look like Nintendo is trying to make happen as it would take too much risk for them to attempt-

the wii wiiu will cost Nintendo money, market share and credibility ( short of a miracle)

re answe (A) above Nintendo did not deliver what they promised from early on and they def did not deliver 3rd party support like they promised.

In all likley hood, the only group that has a chance at being pleased w the Wii u will be some % of its current and future console owners but Mintendo still has a ways to go for that to happen for a high majority

Thank you finally somebody that makes sense I've been saying this for the longest ....success isn't how many units you sell but your profitable at the end of console cycle

A console can only fail for me personally if I bought it and was not pleased with the content / games. I am please with the U, actually more so than with the Wii. So no failure.

Saleswise, the U is quite a failure, as one can see looking at stock prices for Nintendo. Since I am not a shareholder, I dont care.
