In my opinion though, I hated God of War for butchering Greek Mythology.

In my opinion though, i hated Devil May Cry for turning white hair, stylish, cool, funny Dante into black hair, emo, too serious Dante

I would say Devil may Cry because Platinum are masters at Action games, and Hod of War is too violent and bad impersonation of Greek/Egyptian/Norse Mythology.

Did we play a different Devil May Cry 2?

Oppss i forgot that one......make that number 2 on why i prefer GOW

Setting: God of War, the Greek mythology setting is tons of fun
Characters: Dante (old and new) is way better than Kratos. Kratos is always angry, Dante is more laid back, fun, irreverent (good looking too).
Best first game: Tough call... I'm gonna give the edge to Devil May Cry but God of War was incredible too. GoW had the best second game, no doubt though.
Better evolution:  Devil May Cry wins here. God of War introduced new weapons and magic spells but in the end, it always boils down to the Blades of Chaos being the best.
Better games: Tough call again, I guess I'll go with God of War since DMC has had ups and downs.

In the end, I love both series to death.

God of War for the sex and nudity alone. The rest of the game is just icing.

God of War. Its warped telling of greek mythology is oddly fascinating :p

Devil May Cry. GOW's characters do their job well enough, but their personalities were fairly static. DMC suffers from the same thing, but to a much small extent.

Which had the better first game?
I loved the first GOW, but i'd say the first DMC has it edged.

Which evolved more in the later years?
For better or worse, DMC.

Which had the better games?
God of War. I think the 1st DMC edges out all the GOW games, but the DMC series itself is very inconsistent and has never managed to come close to the quality of the original (though 3 was a valiant effort). GOW on the other hand has remained consistent in quality, while also managing top up its scale with each main entry. The side entries don't have the same sense of scale progression that the main trilogy does, but they maintain the series core quality.
