Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can anything 'save' the Wii U?

Has there ever been a console that has made a huge comeback 2 years after its release?
Genesis after Sonic came out?

Around the Network

Nope. Nintendo lives by the Ricky Bobby rule. If you're not first, you're last!!

The need to drop the pad and lower the price, that is the only way to save it, it would sale massively as 200 or less.

Don't think they'll announce a new console just 2 years after launch, given the amount of time it takes to develop one.

At the moment it is looking very much like it will be trailing the X1.

As far as profitability is concerned, Nintendo announced last May that the Wii U was no longer selling at a loss.

No, they said they wrote off the reaming stock so it wouldn't incur losses, they didn't say anything about WiiU manufacturing/hardware not making a loss.

Source?

From third place, likely not. But they can at least turn a profit on the venture.

The question is what lessons they choose to draw from this affair.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

No. They should maintain their baseline, remain profitable, LEARN and try again next gen.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

XB1 will surpass WiiU by the end of this year (Already done it in shipments after all).

And no, no known Nintendo IP will boost hardware and sustain it, why would it? You've had 2D and 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Zelda remake (which would have got some Zelda fans on board at least), Wii Fit, Wii Music and it's about to get Smash, all that and it'll be around 10m after 2 years which included 3 holiday seasons.

Mainline Zelda and a Metroid along with a load of niche IP isn't going to change its fortunes.

You can't outsell something with shipments. And your avatars keep on getting more and more revealing. Why? Are you trying to show off?

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

"save" as in make it sell on par with PS4 and Xbone? No.
save as in make it profitable and keep it from getting discountinued? Yes.

That is incorrect info that was spread around rapidly- Iwata himself in Investors Q and A says the Wii U cost more to male than they can sell it for-  if they sell 3.6 million Wii u s this fiscal year they will break even due to writing down the losses from leftover inventory from last year therefor lowering the t cost of the console this year -

I want one but I am afraid that as soon as I buy it Nintendo will announce a new console. So I am not picking one up unless its dirt cheap

Really? Don't worry, such a thing (with home consoles) hasn't happened since the Atari/Genesis days. And i don't think Nintendo is that retarded, have some trust in them.

Ps: Wanna bet they won't release a new home console within 2 years?
