This is cyclical and works both ways... PS folks can thank Microsoft for having more money to spend and showing them that they have to make their own games and make them really good to survive. 

Sony used a bunch of goons with cash to burn that used video game consoles to push new media formats, casual gaming, media center features... and then wait on 3rd party to actually make good games for their systems. 

1 yes, competition is great.  I win no matter what console loses.

2 No, sounds more like some revisionist history motivated by isms.  They made plenty games since the og PSx.  GT and Spyro and Crash i guess spontaneously combusted to life.

Sure few good games here and there, but you're talling me that without the likes of Tomb Raider, Tekken, Resident Evil, Ridge Racer, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid...PS1 would have been the system it is today?  

 Other than GT really, you could take away the whole Sony first party library and PS1 would have still sold 100+ million.

PS2 is the same story. 3rd parties carried it for the most part. I bought that thing at launch and it didn't have a single good game on the system until a year later when MGS2, Silent hill and FFX came out. Played DVD's though. Boo-yah!

Hell, it launched without a single first party game on day one.  When they did release a game, it was fucking FantaVision!!

 

Anyway, I totally agree with Disolitude.  I owned over 100 Playstation 1 games and I doubt five were made buy Sony.  Same goes for PS2.  Sony didn't step it up until the PS3 days.

He's right you know. Competition made this possible. MS has to do something and quick. Luckily this wont hurt them too deeply its only for the holiday season.

A lot of Sony first party games match the aforementioned in quality IMO: Jak, Ratchet, CTR, Sly, LoD, SoTC, Medieval, etc, etc. But in terms of sales isn't that to be expected since there are a lot more third parties in comparison to first parties?

Haha...FantaVision. Forgot about that game.

I think the first worthwhile game that came out of Sony for the PS2 was Twisted Metal Black which was Sony published...and its funny cause that game came out on the same day Sonic Adventure 2 came out for Dreamcast. I bought both, but looking back it feels like it was the last hurrah of Sega and a beginning of the PS2 empire for Sony. The torch was passed on that day...

Only thing... Why on EARTH Microsoft is not releasing that Master Chief Collection white bundle in north America...
