Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is the TRUE definition of Replayability in gaming?

It's time to bring out those imaginary gaming dictionaries!

What's the definitive definition of replayability in gaming? I personally feel that it's simply being able to play that game again. A game that is simply good enough to play again because it was just a blast to play through. Do you agree with this? Or do you feel that it is having a lot of collectibles in the game?

Let's get to the bottom of this.

Games with different choices and endings; GTA IV, GTA V and Heavy Rain for example.

And I also replay all Ratchet & Clank games for maxing out all weapons.

you replay the game when you are done with the main missions

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I'll tell you what is isnt. It isnt repeating the same missions over and over and over under a different name or the guise of a daily or weekly "challenge"

are you listenting Destiny...?

Probably not, too busy counting $$$ :D

Mirror's Edge

I find games with flow the most replayable. In fact, the more linear the better.

EDIT: lol, my nephew just came to me to help him with Mirror's Edge on the iPad right after this post.

2 words; Dark Souls!

Lol

But if the game was wack you wouldn't have even thought about replaying it. You would've already sold it off before attempting the side missions. So that means that the game didn't have replayabilty, correct?

Todays replayability: DLC and online multiplayer.

WRPG's: Multiple endings resulting from the choice trees.
Action Adventure: Lairs and areas that are unlockable once you attain keys from the first playthrough. Character buffs, etc.
Fighting games: Stories with elaborate endings for each character w/online multiplayer.
Racing: Various new tracks and experiences unlocked so you can dig deeper into the game.

I could say more, but in truth the whole point is about making sure the game is so good that replayability becomes an option. I've even seen people replay games just because they were so good that they had to replay it again on a harder setting and funny enough they got two different experiences off of the difficulty alone.

i play mario till i beat every level without dieing.
