I was just curious, from a design standpoint, what you think the optimum form and dimension of a handheld could be. A device you would always take with you.

Assume the computational power, battery life, phone/sms/wifi/LTE bandwidth, screen PPI, etc. are all unlimited. The system can wirelessly mirror its audio and video to any screen with zero lag.

Would form would the device be a slider/flip/candybar/other?

Would it have hand grips/rounded sides/square ends/other?

What would the screen size/aspect ratio be?

What would the total length/width/depth of the device be?

What would the button layout be?

Would the buttons be sunken in the frame or protruding?

Also, posting artist renders, etc. would be cool.

Something like the New 3DS XL, but with a more rounded overall shape like the PSP/Vita. Still a clamshell. Also the right stick would match the left stick rather than being a nub and the L & R buttons wouldn't be shit (can't speak for the New L&R but if they're anything like they old ones they suck).

Where would you put the buttons?

Make the bezel on the nexus 7 bigger and add buttons on left side and joy stick to the right

I mean the wii u controller would be a good starting place..now just decrease the weight and increase screen size and give it android and I'd pay 400$ for it if that was nintendos next console..of course increase internals from wii u

Why not just buy an Archos 2 then?

Well if that Archos had exclusive nintendo games then that probably would sell better than wii u or virtual boy

My personnal fave design would be the GBA SP

I loved that little bugger, was comfortable to play on for long times, when folded closed it was the PERFECT size to just put in a pocket and forget about.

Thought about buying another, as even though the 3DS is close its a bit to big to just easily stuff in a pocket and forget about for me.

To me it either has to be small enough like an SP that it can go in a pocket and be forgotten about, or big enough that you can sit on a couch and play it but not feel gimped by a small screen. The normal 3DS falls right inbetween those two for me which is why im not keen on it and have an XL. But woud rather have a 3DS that is the same size as the GBA SP
