Welp, now I see why you blocked all those people on linkedin this morning ;D
I assume I'll be leaving the phone unplugged today rofl.

Your comment on the corruption and cutting room floor, reminds me of the scandals with the fake posters on 4chan around the time of ToR (and its occured with major releases even after, that one was just a big one as the person came out about it). It amazes me how little people know of the scummy actions being taken under the guise of anonimity. And the whole narrative of the console war in general is just there to spur distraction, hype, and confirmation bias.

Now on a complete flipside, if you don't mind me asking, what is your opinion over that most recent game to cause a scruffle over gender issues, Captain Toad Bayonetta 2? (I wonder if people will actually sit down and read your whole post. Also feel free to decline my question.)

Oh and Captain Toad? (But answer this one!)

Very informative and entertaining read. Thank you for sharing.

The topic or game doesn't really matter, they now function almost atonimously on a trigger system, Bayonetta 2 is actually being given a fairly wide birth by both social media and gaming outlets, I've shared my view on Bayonetta 2 already, to me personally, I don't see a need for the flagrent sexualization, i won't however belittle or detract from the game BASED on that, i just see it as a minor distraction from a game i'd otherwise have enjoyed more without.

But it does bring to light other issues, namely the somewhat selective system by which games media attack a certain title as being sexist or objectifying, for example with Dragons Crown, there mere depiction of large breasted cleavage was enough for Kotaku to go on a multi article rampage against the concept artist, but the dry humping S&M fun in Bayo 2 doesn't get anywhere near as much coverage.

The difference isn't the games, though, or the platforms, the difference is the issue of sexism, or in a more defined scope, the current media favorite, dismantling the movement known as gamersgate, gets more airtime and hits than taking offence to the depiction of a sexy woman in a game, the difference here then is simply timing - Dragons crown came out too close to the Anita Sarkeesian video, and was well and truly mauled as a result, now the issue is more focused towards the resulting fallout between the perceived battle of women and the rather tar-brushed approach of writing up all gamersgate supports are being threatening, abusive people hell bent on murdering and harming.

This of course is just another red herring, the shills that spent much of the birth of this gen doing the rounds trying to push one console over another are now hard at work posting in agreement and attacking those that disagree across major websites covering gamergate - think of it subjectively, gamersgate as a whole came about based on the distrust of the gaming media and it's practices, should we really be trusting the games media on covering this topic? or the outsider sites that basically take games medias word for it out of lack of knowledge and run similar stories?

Because to me the only people to really benefit from this are the media, they drum up revenue while insuring their livelihood is protected, do they care about the root issue? do they fuck, what they care about is finding the worst possible actions and painting anyone who supports the hashtag with it, go to any gamersgate article on kotaku and read through the comments, you will see crafted discussion, you will see "the hashtag is dead give it up" multiple times from multiple people, this is social manipuilation.

If you push the opinion frequenly enough and maintain that position eventually you'll get normal users joining the bandwagon, and the end result is you have taken down the threat that existed primarilly to bring to light corruption, USING corruption in order to maintain the ability to BE corrupt.

It doesn't matter what game you pick, the media will simply pick apart any title and find issues with a particular part if it supports their overall theme, and with the major sites now being run by corporations that run several sites at a time, pushing an opinion or agenda has never been easier.

So to sumarize, it isn't the game, it's the timing, if they feel a particular topic needs a bump in awareness, they will use whatever new title is at hand, and if an agenda is already well under way the game will either get off lightly or be shat on simply for the drama a low score generates in it's place.

Remember, these sites don't exist to inform, they exist to turn news and contraversty into revenue.

Oh I don't doubt that Polygon would have loved to take to the chariots with Bayo2 just as they did with the Sorceress, driving their own media circle jerk ala Colbert's kerfuffle with the asian foundation for hits and exposure. Heck, I think they expressly wanted it given the way the review was handled and presented (I read it, so little of it being about the game...). As I wrote that I realized that they did... all according to plan I guess, for everyone.

Definitely a matter of convenience in timing, that is how all news works in this day and age. I don't really think either game should have been attacked or be attacked; one can be critical of the concepts presented or of the absurd proportions and physiques of the characters but then one could also levy the same criticisms at a title like God of War which is nothing short of male power fantasies with equally absurd proportions, or Gears of War where every male is a fridge and every female is a slender super model.

Buy a WiiU! Support the cause!

Of course the whole thing is silly. Its like the NFL's internal revues of murderers and abusers and criminals that "turn up nothing" until someone else actually looks into it or it ends up getting caught on camera. Its absurd to think that people even fall for garbage like this: Party X is called out, Party X says they'll look into it and keep you posted, Party X finds nothing wrong, Party X says to move along. This is no different.

And according to games media, gamers are dead. I am, apparently, a corpse.
