Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anecdotal Evidence Thread - My Best Buy/Mall Experience 10/24/14

It seems like Microsoft advertising is kicking in full gear. I love my Xbox One, I love my Surface 2, and I think my PC is awesome so this is great news. I also own a tiny little bit of Microsoft stock (the most I can afford being a college student).

First I would like to talk about my Bestbuy.

When you first walk in, there are Xbox One and PS4 posters. The gaming section has two Xbox Ones on display and well as a PS4. I didn't even find the Wii U section odly enough. I'm sure it was there somewhere but it wasn't in front like the other two. The tablet section was advertising NFL on the tablets and of course there was another Xbox One there on display because of exclusive advertising rights.

Now I would like to talk about my mall.

There is a dedicated Microsoft Store in the mall, there are two Xbox Ones in the store as well as an Xbox One right in the middle of the mall! It was kind of cool, they have Dance Evolution running all day so you have watch dance competitions right in the middle of a mall. Great advertising IMO. The gamestop in the mall is split up about 45% Xbox systems, 40% playstation systems, and about 15% Nintendo systems. There are far more Xbox One posters than PS4/Wii U posters. It seems like Microsoft has some great advertising up their sleaves here as well!

-I saw a Sunset Overdrive Bundle commercial yesterday

-The ads here on VGCharts are all Xbox One and Call of Duty

I think this will make a huge push come Holiday season.

What are you guys experiencing??

I should have noted I am in USA Chicago. PS4 and Xbox One are very popular here. I even know some people that own a Wii U. We are a very diverse crowd of people with different tastes in games.

Around the Network

Sunset Overdrive commercials are broadcast very often during NFL games. I usually skip over all ads, but I still saw them last night.
They are also very frequent during NFL Network regular programming.

They've had that SO ad on overkill. I've seriously seen that commercial more than any other Xbox One commercial yet.

Gonna be interesting to see if these efforts will translate into sales.

Only 2.6m to go :)

I think they need to sell about 8 million to catch the PS4...  :)

It is near the end of the end....

Around the Network

I was a bit surprise here in Brazil last year because it was the first time I saw console ads in public places like Subway... it was crazy how the there are big pictures and ads of Ryse and Xbone launch.

I never saw something like that here (it is common for others products but not videogames).

After launch... well... nothing... no ad.

No, it just needs 8.5m by the end of this year. It can die off after that for all I care.

Massive push for Sunset Overdrive. Cannot blame Microsoft for trying to make people aware of it.

Yet it will fail to win this holiday season even in its strongest market, the US.

There is a hard push from MS to have a fighting chance in sales, but the fact is that the current trend will dictate the entire generation. The PS4 managed something that MS is just dreaming about: positive word of mouth and media buzz, that will keep on trough this year and cement the PS4 position by the next year.

Not to say that the Xone will sell poorly, but forget the 80milion + instalbase of the 360.
