Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What if... the Wii U was a sales success?

How much would it have sold during 2013 for it to be a success in your opinion?

Would the PS4 have still outsold the Wii U?

How far ahead or behind would the PS4 or Xbox One be?

I think that Wii U will sell more than 5 million this year.

5M is a good number in my opinion, but not a succes

Succes is 7-8 million.

Third party would sell alot of crap software to make easy money and other than that not much would be different.

Its actually pretty good for Nintendo customers that not so many people own the system.

This. It could have been the Wii all over again with lots and lots of shovelware.

I never understood this concept. How does shovelware influence someone's enjoyment of a system? Nobody's forcing you to buy it, just ignore it. Does it burn your soul if a Dora The Explorer game is on your system?

Anyway, if Wii U was a big success out of the gate, I think it would've influenced how the XBone was made. If the casuals had stayed, Microsoft would attempt to get them.

The Wii U has already been a success for me... as a consumer. Never have I been so impressed by the quality of 1st party games within such a short time span after release. I just recently read that the Wii U has released 30 1st party games in the same time span as the Wii released like 33 (so they are more or less doing the same pace with the Wii U). I can not describe to you how much better the quality of these 30 Wii U games is (on average) compared to the quality of the first 33 Wii games released from Nintendo. It's stunning really. I love my Wii U and the games I have for it.

That being said, the 3ds still had the best year of any gaming device ever in 2013 in my opinion.

I did mean as a sales success.

I think it would be different, bad marketing, bad hardware choice, bad naming.

If it was named Game Duo or whatever, and it could run the same games of the others plataforms in at least 900p, there would be no reason for someone who likes Nintendo games to buy another console, and a lot of people I know would sacrifice 180p for Nintendo first party. But not sacrifice third party for Nintendo exclusives only.

I meant the Wii U itself, not a console you would have made.

If the Wii U was a sales success, it would be the Wii, except that you'd have mobile game ports masquerading as shovelware.

Then again, we already have those on the eShop.
