I feel like making a thread of me going to my local Target and showcasing the Wii U section (because its ALWAYS sold out there). Then I guess that would disprove this thread right? :-/

Not if it means the retailer had a clearance sale and hasn't bothered to restock. O

No they don't. I visit the Mall that Target is in at least once a week, and they get Wii U's by 2s and 4s. If anything they tend to do that with the Nintendo 2DS (been on sales multiple times for $99.99). Most of the time I see one or none Wii Us behind the glass shelf.

Also what's even more interesting is that my Best Buy is always LOADED on Xbones (Even more than Wii Us). Not that it proves anything, but I've seen tons of PS4 sales while only seeing one XBONE sale ever...

Again, crap proof, but if OP wants to share personal experience...

If Target is consistently out of a product it is due or it not being well stocked -  if the product was selling well they would not let the shelf stay consistently  empty unless it is due to supply constraints which we know is not the case with Wii U games

an empty shelf is typically a bad thing in retail So your personal experience is not a good one for the Wii u

Dunno about this... I worked at a cell phone store earlier in my career. We used to get iPhone 5Cs in limited amounts weekly (usually 2-4 weekly), in 1 to 3 days they would sell out. My friend works in the same Target, he says he gets 2-4 Wii U weekly and they do the best in this store than the previous stores he's came from (saying that it even sells more than the Xbone SLIGHTLY, but not as much at the PS4).

It makes sense that the Wii U would sell out in this particular area. The amount of parents are staggering here (I know because I work in a bank that has measured the clients here). Admittingly so, it sells close to crap around where I live (from my personal experience Nintendo is not big with the average African American community  ). Ironically, Wii games sell by bunches here, as do all 7th generation games (guess it has to do with the poverty in the area?). Lots of ppl are always playing demos of Hyrule Warriors though. Destiny, Madden, and NBA 2K are huge here from what I see people mostly buying.

Well I mean we have NPD numbers and we know the Wii U is not selling great, so it's not like it's some huge secret or point of debate. The system isn't doing well. There probably are more than a few stores that look like this as a result, whereas others don't.

https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?productId=prod150200

That's basically every single excess old 8GB (slap it in a black case and with a higher memory stick) model gone and whatever actual units were actually refurbs (I doubt all of that stock and backorder was from actual refurbs, it was warehouse and returned 8GB/32GB models). They may well finally be clearing out their initial stock deal with the pad technology that's been crippling the system's price. If they can top off their previous commitments/contracts for the transceiver tech and panels, we could see a cheaper gamepad revision and new SKU at a much lower price-point in the near future.

Cheaper screen panel + revision on the transceiver = much cheaper production costs; though I have no idea who their chip supplier is at this point for the console itself but I doubt the WiiU's actual non-pad guts cost more than a 100$. <200$ market SKU would do them good if they could also sell it at a profit.

It could be worse.

What did they put in the way of that poor wall? It could have been used to prop those boxes more securely.

I just bought a Wii U a couple weeks ago when Best Buy had them on sale for $25 off. I went to two different stores in my area and both of them had Wii U sections that looked EVEN worse than the one you showed, cause at least your picture shows consoles on sale! Neither location had consoles on the shelf, I had to ask for them to go get one from the back. Stock your shelves, dammit! Neither store had MK8 on the shelf, and only a couple copies of Nintendo 1st party games...most games were budget games. Pitiful.

Bah!

Wow that's pretty bad, the Best Buy I work at isn't that bad but its still is pretty empty. We actually have less games than last year.

Yeah.  It just looks to me like many tiles are not being restocked.  MK8 is popular but it's sold out in 60% of stores in SF area... and other titles are even harder to come by.  It's not just a store here or there, you can check the availability online.  Try to find Pikmin 3 in New York - not a single BB seems to have it.  It's even unavailable at GameStop online.

Possibly the monthly sales of some of these games are now so low that it no longer makes sense to stock every store, but if people can't see games in stores, even top Nintendo titles, then it's going to work against the Wii U looking like the console with "gaemz", and certainly it doesn't help these titles have legs.

My 8th gen collection

nothing surprising here. Most people i know still don't realize the Wii U is a console. Instead they think its a controller add on

PSN & XBOX GT : cutzman25

Most stores near me have rateher pathetic and understocked wiiu sections.

Its majority PS4 and a good xbox section.  Iv seen FS4 walls larger then wiiu or vita sections.

what was the pstv section like? did it even have a section?

genuine question.

Id guess given PS4 sales, retailers have to play nice and do the bare minimum really half ass'd stocking of Vita.

I just love the sign on the wall of "never stop playing" Clearly those boxes just can't get enough of whatever is on the Vita :D

As for the wii-u section that looks great, as long as you realllly love Assassins Creed 3
