Only Smash and WW HD are true 1080p Wii U games (not counting eshop)

Technically speaking there are few others: Rayman Legends and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate come to mind.

They're not graphically demanding, but they are 1080p native.

I'm not sure about Rayman Legends, but I would guess it is 60fps as well, right? Does that make Smash and Rayman the only 1080p 60fps games on the Wii U?

Rayman Legends is 1080p/60fps, yes.

There are not the only ones though; a few eshop games run at 1080p/60fps also.

Steamworld Dig, Spy Chameleon, and Puddle for example.

Later on after that, they invited all the journalists in. Some of them came out saying it was 60fps. But one thing is for certain, is that it doesn't slow down during 8 player.

I dunno, I've learned to be sceptical of journalists' assessments of framerate and resolution.

I meant retail games only.

Then yes, if Smash does turn out to be 1080p/60fps it will be the second retail Wii U game to run at those specs.

Wind Waker HD and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate are 1080p/30fps.

I find it ironic that given how important we are lead to believe 1080p is (compared with peasantly 720p), and with the number of journalists who have already played Smash extensively, you would imagine that there should be no doubt what resolution Smash, or any other game, runs at.

Yeah, ok, ok, I guess the WiiU has a little power under its very small hood after all. So...why don't the PSONE do this? ;)

They would probably melt trying to run Smash on 1080p/60fps

Well with such basic graphics, levels, and character designs, I would bloody expect 1080 at 60 fps.

This is the type of comment we've come to expect from this thread.

Because it is true. People forget that graphics are not subjective, nor is hardware. You can put numbers down and know exactly what something should be able to achieve.

Smash Bros. looks simply amazing, i want to have it right now. I played melee hundreds of hours together with friends, althought years after it's release.

Hopefully my conncection is strong enough for online matches. :)

"Rock Solid" frame rate(60fps) even at 8 player smash.

Even at 8 players? Oh boy, this is very nice!

The screenshots have always been 1080p, indicating that this was the case, but still it's weird; they have targeted 720p in almost every other first party title, why shoot for 1080p with Smash?

Just a guess.

Maybe because you have a lot of things happening on screen at once, and a crispy clean 1080p image helps you keep track of everything without too much eye straining. Try to think about an 8 player battle with screen jaggies :P

1080p 60fps? Nice. I imagine they cut on the models though for that. Who knows. Whatever the case, graphics aren't that important to me, just give me good gameplay, the higher the fps, the better.
