It's long enough to get as many suckers as possible to buy both versions without being too long of a wait that they won't want the Wii U versioni at all. |
Well, I bought the 3DS version of SMASH and I don't consider myself a sucker. It has literally taken over my gaming life. Only recently have I finally been able to put it down and play something else. All in all I think I have played 40hs since release date.
And you have many benefits in owning both Smashes (Early Mewtwo release, Club Nintendo Soundtrack which WILL probably be rare and could sell on Ebay later, able to use the 3DS for a controller, transfer already made strong fighters to the Wii U version to fool around with n00bs, and tons of practice over the ppl waiting for a Wii U version). All of this, plus an awesome, handheld, casual port of a great game.
I originally wanted to only get one version. I'm so happy I decided to get both.
OP: I believe this is the best business move Nintendo has made in years, hands down. Iwata still has marketing magic it seems. The 3ds version is already 3m and counting, and it's not even the holidays. Man, you REALLY THING about it, I can see families buying a 3DS+Smash 3DS+Wii U+ Smash Wii U+ Gamecube port+Gamecube Controller+ 1-4 Amiibos just get the FULL SMASH BROS experience. I also feel it would be justifiable, giving the massive content owning both games will give you. It literally seems you can play this game straight for a year and not finish it.
Well played Nintendo, well played.
