They're not that bad and it's a one time thing. The only ones complaining about it are Sony fans IMO

Why would Sony fans complain? Makes no sense, their games install in a minute. I personally don't give a damn how long it takes an XOne game to install because I don't have one and never plan getting it. And that makes me very happy with no need for complaining?

(...)

Because that kind of practice is common among people who want to assure themselves and/or others that they aren't heavily biased. "See, reason X, Y and Z are why I chose PlayStation over Xbox/Nintendo."

One very regular complaint last generation was that Xbox Live Gold has a subscription fee, so about every two to three months there was a thread about that topic. These longwinded threads to complain have disappeared since Sony introduced their own online multiplayer paywall, so it's clear that the people who complained the most about Microsoft's paywall were Sony fans, even though they didn't own an Xbox and had no intentions to own one.

I guess the bottom line is that you don't understand because you aren't so biased that you have to spout nonsense to feel better about yourself.

What an amazing paragraph, this should be nailed to some peoples heads.

That's not true. Lots of people are complaining a lot about the long install times.

Thats pretty much BS though.

I have installed a few games now on my Xbox One. It only takes 20-40 min depending on your game. If you can't wait a half an hour and eat dinner or something while your game installs there is something psychologically wrong with who ever complains about waiting. Either that or they are Sony/Nintendo/Ouya fans.

What a terrible post.

So if I don't want to wait 40 minutes before being able to play a game because it is installing it means something is psychologically wrong with me?

What say you about those who instead of voicing their dissatisfaction just suck it up and deal with whatever shit is thrown their way? "Smart"?

Yeah Gotta agree with Euphoria here 100% imagine if you rented out a game for a night and 1hour+ of that playtime is watching it install, pretty weak.

I ran into a similar annoying situation a while back when I got a PS3 was very late in the generation so I got a ton of games for it rather cheap and decided to sit down one evening and have a play through a few of the games I had been missing, some of the Earlier ps3 titles I popped in had some criminal installing/load times TNA impact was the end of my nights gaming, somewhere between 30-45 mins installing for a game I couldn't stand more than 2 5 minute fights, just takes all the fun away from simple console gaming.

Thanks for clarifying.

While nothing you said was wrong (to my knowledge), I can say "Xbox Turn Off" and it will turn off but it's still in a low powered stated, much like a TV or something when you turn it off.  It's when you turn it 100% off (aka not in standby) that the game will reset.  Pretty much what you said but I haven't turned any console totally off since the 6th gen.  Even my Vita is on right now!

No doubt the PS4 will have this feature, maybe even a better version, sooner or later.

That is very nice. It is great on the Vita as well, I never turn it off since the energy consumption in standby is insignificant. Xbox implementation seem to be the same so that is also nice. Who knows when will the PS4 get it, Sony OS team seem to be pretty slow.

Though keep in mind that the standby energy consumption on the home consoles is actually quite significant. I'd only use it when I actually need it due to environmental concerns.

i'm pretty sure the PS4 does have standby? If mine is turned off how could my vita wirelessly turn it on if it wasn't in standby?

Yes it has standby, in my second paragraph I said that the energy consumption of the home consoles is significant in standby mode. What it doesn't have is suspend & resume that is available on both the Vita and the Xbox One. It can do standby but it cannot do suspend & resume.

so playing a game and you pause it, put it in standby and then boot it up later and resume the game? I think I get you

I think that is exactly how it works. On the Vita I can put it in standby mode while playing or after pausing a game, the game will continue from where I left off. The feature is much more useful on a handheld due to its pick up and play nature but even on home consoles there are plenty of situations where you are far away from a checkpoint and you need to stop playing for sometime, it is great for cases like that.

If they implement it such that the game state is saved to the hard drive instead of RAM, it would be even better since you can completely turn off the console and still continue playing. I doubt it though.

Best thing about this feature on the vita is how it kicks in when the battery is at critical lvl so your game is safe til you get it to a charging point.... just happened with me miles down digging in MC so I'm pretty damn happy it's there, woulda lost a lot of digging progress.

What!? Ö

Need For Speed Rivals:

PS4: 00:32

Just Dance 2014:

A quick search will show you a lot of complaints about the excessive install times on Xbox One. Eg. DR3, Ryse, COD Ghosts, Shadow of Mordor, etc.

It gets even worse if the console is connected to the internet and you want to install the updates.

So it's software architecture indeed.

Actually the install times are the same on both consoles. PS4 just let's you play before the install is finished.

so does the xbox one.

It staggers me how little ps4 owners know about the xbox one and yet spout it anyway.

So you probably is a post-doctorate in everything Sony because you certainly complain a lot about all of it and certainly is the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company since you are always spouting what Sony should do to be profitable.

And I found cute when you say it's childish to bring a point like this to badmouth a console but didn't resist bringing 2 of ps4 so it would be more on ps than xbox. Precious argumenting.

What an amazing paragraph, this should be nailed to some peoples heads.

I think the key difference is that Playstation Plus had value in their online service with the tons of free games that they offered monthy.  XBOX Live was 50 dollars at the beginning without any sort of value like we see today.  Even when they increased it to 60 dollars, what value did they add to XBOX Live?  When Microsoft introduced Games with Gold, consumers finally saw that their 60 dollar purchase was justified.

But spin it how you want it.  The only people that were complaining about the subscription fee were Sony fans....right.....

Talk is cheap. Phil always seem to know when to say the right things but he hasn't put anything into motion. He's telling Xbox fans what they want to hear and they're eating it up.

anyway I find it hilarious how he's still defending the always online thing.
