Forums - General Discussion - Evolution is *BOTH* Fact and Theory

Before you starting writing things like "OMGZ U CANT NO" I've seen lots of posts about this recently from some uninformed individuals, which is mainly the blame of scientists because they're awful at conveying scientific knowledge to the general public as a whole.

Let me explain what I mean by it being both a fact and a theory..

Evolution is a fact in terms of we know that living things adapt and change over time. It's in our DNA, It can be seen and studied and has been for a long time. It cannot be disputed that animals change over time, and given enough time drastic changes happen gradually.

When people say "The Theory of Evolution" what that means is "what are the mechanisms driving this change?" But even then it's pretty solid to the point where you could call it fact that Evolution is driven by Natual Selections, Mutations and Genetic Drift but obviously we can only say 99% if we're being intellectually honest. Or even be more honest and say "All the evidence we have point to these mechanisms and they work in this way"

But Evolution isn't the only thing that's both fact and theory... there's Gravity.

Gravity as a force is a fact, we know it exists we know it affects us. "The Theory of Gravity" or "Gravitational Theory" is the theories behind how gravity works, laws of motion, planetary motion, perpetual motion, etc etc.

(Be nice this is my first post on this site, hello)

""All the evidence we have point to these mechanisms and they work in this way" " That's pretty much how a scientific theory works, yeah. If the evidence doesn't point to it then we can't speak of a scientific theory. Scientific theories are, a lot of the time, just the best truth to something we can come up with at the moment. That's why we consider them to be facts a lot of the time.

That's exactly what i'm saying, that's the theory part to evolution which can change and be mended over time like any theory if we discover that evolution works in a different way or in more ways than we thought before.
