Forums - Sony Discussion - New PS4 Model CUH-1100 and what has changed:

To summarize the article:
1.) Lower manufacturers cost
2.) Lower power consumption (Uknown significance)
a.) With lower power consumption generally comes lower temps
3.) Over engineering for the first models has been removed, as they are no longer needed

Article:

About the new model number CUH-1100 series of PS4 was released on October 9, I tried to examine the changes from the initial model CUH-1000 series.

Power consumption
Standby mode even when operating in the new model CUH-1100 and (retrofit already SSHD of 1TB) initial model CUH-1000, there was a difference of ± 1 ~ 2W in each state but power consumption was about the same.

Weight
CUH-1000 is 2.70kg 2.75kg, is CUH-1100 at scales that can not be measured only in 50g units.

Substrate
CUH-1000 is SAB-001 is CUH-1100 in the SAA-001 revision of the main board.

SAB-001 substrate A surface

SAB-001 board B surface

Board layout is almost the same.
Big difference in the power supply circuit part, a power supply circuit that was 4 phase to two-phase for GPU for the CPU in CUH-1000 is now the CPU for Phase 1 GPU for 3-Phase In CUH-1100.

It has become a "CXD90026AG" from "CXD90026G" is the model number of the APU.How would such as post-processing change or stepping change because there is no change to the numeric portion.

From "A01-COL" model number for booting the system controller (Renesas R32C / 118) is in "A02-COL". I think the change in the program that is masked.

It has become a "K4B2G1646Q-BCMA" from "K4B2G1646E-BCK0" is SDRAM that is connected to the sub-processor "CXD90025G".

It seems to be DDR3L corresponding to 1.35V to 1.5V except From a model number, but the operating voltage is unknown.

CUH-1000 (SAA-001) APU CXD90026G

CUH-1100 (SAB-001) APU CXD90026AG

CUH-1000 (SAA-001) SystemController A01-COL

CUH-1100 (SAB-001) SystemController A02-COL

8-bit MCU "STM8ED" of STMicroelectronics, which has been connected to the sub-processor "CXD90025G" in SAA-001 has not been implemented in SAB-001.

This MCU seems to pertain to the BD drive and from the wiring, but the same stone because it is also implemented to the substrate of the BD drive, stone of the main body side Maybe it was unnecessary originally.

STM8ED is unimplemented pattern while remaining
• Power supply unit

It is 24g lighter, rated output value has changed.

CUH-1000 ADP-240AR weight 472g

CUH-1100 ADP-240CR weight 448g

Heat-dissipating unit

Fin shape of the heat sink has been changed.

Shield weight 324g heatsink and CUH-1000

Shield weight 298g heatsink and CUH-1100

The CUH-1000, in order to cool efficiently at a flow rate of the wind varies depending on the location, it is a heat sink which employs a fin of different pitch at the high-speed range and the low speed range of the wind in that single it is omitted in the CUH-1100 It has become a fin pitch.

Other, there is no significant design changes gasket use part of the electromagnetic noise is or has decreased groove for hooking the internal antenna cable to the radio or have been improved but small improvements in order to enhance the workability and cost down is seen in various places You.

Even though with a model which aimed at the cost down to review the parts overkill feeling inherent in the initial model.

So they've already made a slight redesign? And best yet it will mean even more money for Sony?

I would think that Sony would pass along the savings to its customers, as they claim to be very interested in what's best for the customer(EA Access).

It will probably lead to a price drop in march or april  though...

I see they have not changed the way they attach the hdmi port, this causing a lot of issues at the moment.

Nope. A price cutthat early s just unnecesary. Its more likely to lead to a spec bump than a price cut. They would most likely increase the size of the HDD to 1TB. But if the XB1 drops to $299 between may and october next year, then they would mostly just drop their own price around november instead of bumping up the HDD.

The PS4 is sellng well enough for sony for them to start thinking baout "passing on the savings to their customers".

And they need it because their going bankrupt ;)

A 1TB hard drive would be a welcome addition.

Depends on how big the saving is. It isn't really worth a price cut if it is only a small amount.

Besides, you could say that them decreasing the power consumption is passing some savings to their customers as well...

Remeber the PS4's that were in those clear display boxes that kept overheating?  Obviously displayed in closed boxes.

Maybe they recognized some long term problem and have fixed it now.

I agree though, the savings are probably small.  I was thinking that they would drop the price early next year and they are just getting all of the cheaper components into the systems.  Sony has to be happy that they have sold so many PS4's, as this will alow for cheaper costs from their suppliers anyway.  Becasue they are clearly dominating the market, they don't even have to drop the price.  I think they will, only because M$ will on the xb1 by april for sure.
