The game looks fun. This resolution war is getting quite annoying. I played red dead redemption in 640p in PS3 and it didnt stopped the fun of the game.

this. when did this shit become a thing?

last gen no one cared. i didnt even know the resolution of ONE single game on my console :D

btw i know them now, its mentioned often when current gen talks about resolution appears. forza horizon as example

People did care :p The 360 having better ports was a very frequently discussed topic. There's even a thread somewhere around here of someone listing all the 360 versions that looked better (i'm sure someone has a link to it).

The difference this time round is that the gap is larger and online gaming discussion is more common than back in the peak years of the port wars (the internet is general is really).

"900p works perfect for us," says creative director of upcoming Xbox One exclusive.

Back in September, developer Insomniac Games confirmed that upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive would run at 900p/30fps. Now, the studio has revealed that it had the game running at 1080p during development, but chose 900p in part because the lower resolution allowed the developer to create more on-screen mayhem.

The end result, according to creative director Marcus Smith, is a game so stuffed with action that Transformers director Michael Bay would be proud.

"Why would you want less action on screen? That's insanity," Smith said when asked in an IGN video why the studio chose 900p over 1080p. "900p works perfect for us. We spent a lot of time comparing and contrasting. We had it running at 1080p, we'd play it; we had it running at 900p, we'd play it and they didn't look considerably different. But the things that you could draw on screen were a lot more, and we wanted to draw a lot more on screen. More action, more better. Michael Bay would be very proud."

Also in the interview, Smith reveals that while Sunset Overdrive will not support free roam co-op at launch, this could be added to the game through a post-release expansion. If that doesn't happen, it could show up in a sequel. "Never say never," Smith said.

Sunset Overdrive launches in the US on October 28 as an Xbox One exclusive. The game, which is published by Microsoft, will be accompanied by a $400 Xbox One bundle that includes a white system (and matching white controller) and a copy of the game. This is notable because it will represent the first time Microsoft will publicly offer the Xbox One in a color other than black.

I don't care. I agree with the studio, lowering the resolution makes a better game (except for people who need 1080p, then go for pc).

Awesome news. Gameplay over resolution. Ryse looked crsiper and better visually than 1080p games at launch. So who really cares? Only point scoring fanboys care. What's important is it looks great, gameplay is optimized and fun. Let's hope this is the case.

Because it's an Xbox One game. lol

They would have to make cuts in their game design in order to bump the resolution up to 1080p, as is true of most Xbox One developers.

"Micheal Bay would be proud" is not a phrase with positive connotations for me.

That being said, if that's the trade-off, then I certainly agree with the decision.

Watched the first commercial last night for it but I wasn't impressed. I thought it was rather goofy.

Valid answer, if you have to choose between pixel and content, go for content unless your game is based on visuals. Then keep upgrading the code and maybe with dlc put more content or resolution after if possible.

Of course it's perfect if you don't have a choice.

Translation; the xbone didn't have enough power to do half decent graphics and get the gameplay we wanted.

Well that is a good sign for a "brand new" and "cutting edge" console *facepalm*

We accepted that the Xbox One is weaker than the PS4 and more powerful than the Wii U ages ago. Now we can just move on and see the one make the best games it can with what it can do. The game looks good to me. Can't wait to see the reviews!

Amen to this.
