Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Slim to be announced at E3 2015

This is so obviously fake that it hurts. A new SSD to push for 1080p? Remove the BD drive? What?

i won't speak for europe.

in the US psn's DA preorder is $59.99 and at amazon it is $59.96.    i think i can afford a 3 cent premium.   to be frank,.. with all the ps+ sales i find psn to be cheaper than retail quite often.  not always but often enough.   besides,..

It isnt really the cost though... apparently.  Its the downloads man!

Did you see the uproar for the 20gb content download for Halo MCC.... unless.... no.... it couldn't be could it.... you dont think that was all disingenuous nonensense purely because of what it was and where it was?  Surely not.  Surely this will get a violent rebuttal based on the problem of download speeds and caps.

But as I said.  I'm consistent (have been since the possible digital world of the original ONE concept) so I agree, I dont care either.... I'm Richer... Bitch!

i mean,. if i put myself in the shoes of a guy that hates digital downloads i can kind of get the annoyance at the 20 Gb download.  if i'm paying for a disc because my internet is too slow to buy digital downloads than to require a 20 Gb download would be annoying.   i know i was quite buggered when i got bioshock for ps3 and the disc to harddrive download took like 1.5 hours.  i just wanted to play the fucking game and not have to make a 3 course dinner while waiting.

that said, many people's outrage is probably feined.  my internet isn't the best (5 Mbs at best) and a 20 Gb download still wouldn't be more than an hour or 2 (i think).   ...but i stayed out of that thread.  i'm an asshole but i try to pick and choose my assholery to topics that deserve it moreso than that.

If people hated the Halo MCC 20 GB update than this will flop HARD.

WAY too soon. I think there will eventually be a digital only model, but there will also be one with an optical drive.

Just saying that a SSD would help to achieve 1080p shows that the rumour is fake and the guy that invented it is too stupid to even lie in a convicing way. It's a shame that there are people here even believing in this BS. Just read the rumour guys, it's inconsist from a technical standpoint, therefore, impossible.

SSD Drive? Well, if it's a crappy drive like in the PS3 12 GB version, they better not do it. Especially as this gen there is more write load on disks I wouldn't go for SSDs...

It wasn't a SSD, it was a flash drive. They are pretty different. A flash drive is slower than a HDD, while a SSD is created with several flash drives in paralel and achieves a way higher performance than a HDD. The drive's life is shorter tough.

likewise.

I'm lucky having 70mg downloads so digital is very viable.  It does grate a little that it isnt cheaper, but I'm essentially lazy and seek instant gratfification (its my age) so a download beats the hell out of driving to the store, parking, speaking to an idiot in Game and then driving back.  Postage options can be hit and miss too.

i don't know how the laws work in the UK but here in chicago when i buy my game digitally i get out of paying a 12% tax rate.   that is about 7 bucks on a full priced game.  throw in a gallon (or whatever) of gas at about $5 a gallon and going to the store is just not very cost effective.  amazon is cheap but having to wait for the game to arrive sucks donkey ballz.

i pre-ordered dark souls via amazon and when they still hadn't shipped the game 5 days after release i just said fuck it and canceled my amazon order and bought it at the store.  seriously amazon,..  what the fuck is a pre-order worth if you can't even put it in the mail on release day.  infamous 2 was the worst though.  also on pre-order and i ended up waiting 3 weeks for that fucking game to arrive.  in retrospect i wish i would have said fuck it to amazon and gone full digital even earlier than i did.

Not that much. Sure there is slow and fast flash but nowadays it's the controller that makes a lot of the speed. The main performance increase however is acres time. The fact that bigger flash drives are also faster than others also indicate that it's the controller itself and the logic in it manages the speed, so to say (well, throughput and iops that is.).

Either way, it's flash in both cases

yeeeeeeaaaah no. i am a physical copies kind of a guy, with a few digital titles. im hoping this isnt true if so.

"Trick shot? The trick is NOT to get shot." - Lucian

This "article" lost its credibility when it mentioned "SSD".

It is completely made up, but I can see the merit in having a non-optical drive console

Clearly there has been a great take up in digital games, even with their 50GB sizes, and there are benefits to Sony with more people going digital

They get a 30% cut (probably roughly something like that) from every digital sale, rather than just their small royalty fee from every physical sale

They can also save some money by not including it obviously. It will also keep the console quieter and cooler

You can also make a few tiers and do some traditional hard drive pricing rip offs

The real problem with the article is the SSD part. A 512GB SSD costs as much as the whole console (last time I checked). With game sizes seemingly increases by the day, even that will be a little bit on the small side. The next SKUs will be 1TB or more. I believe the Xbox One has already started the trend
