Forums - Sony Discussion - Why did PS3 owners accept lazy ports?

Tagged games:

I don't think developers were lazy. I think they had a harder time with the PS3, requiring more resources to port - resources that simply didn't exist. A game can only have so much budget. I love the PS3 but the Cell was a mistake.

Then why did you make light of the fact that the PS4 is what most people choose?

I didn't.  The thread is about why people accepted lazy ports on PS3, your response was that they had a choice to get a 360, but stayed with the PS3 based on brand loyalty.  However, if you look at gen7, at least in the US, the 360 was dominant.  So, with gen8, the brand loyalty thing you suggested would indicate that the XB1 would have more purchasers due to brand loyalty.  I was pointing out that the case was reversed, and people weren't being brand loyal but going where the better experience (perceived or actual, whatever floats you) is on PS4.

Don't forget reason 3.

The average consumer doesn't know if their version is inferior.

It looks like Xbox users saying they didn't see difference between 900p and 1080p... Bayonetta run like shit on PS3... the gameplay was heavily affected.

Even watching youtube videos you could see your game didn't run like the game showed on the video.

Because I wanted to play those games... I will not buy another system for better versions of a game, when I can save money for Sony's "Only On" titles.

Well in the rest of the world the PS3 was the dominant console. Say what you will about the US gamers, but they are usually the smarter buyers.

Average consumers don't see the difference in resolution and that isn't as jarring as the Bayonetta situation.

Many people played it on PS3 because that's the platform they had. People just play whatever version is available to them.

There is really no game I can point to that did poorly because it doesn't look as nice or perform as well as a different platform's version.

Because the average consumer does not really care and the differences were minor in most cases. A game should be judged on its own merits.

Bayonetta was one of the few bad cases and its not as if the game was unplayable. It was still a good game on the ps3.

... Didnt buy skyrim for that specific reason. But as someone else already has said. The wii u doesnt have any 3rd party anylonger. Boycotting is fine and all but nintendo fans need to realize that a system with such a low install base gains nothing but apathy when faced with demands. The worst player on the team doesnt go over to the coach to demand a pay rise, no he is deeply gratefull for getting some time on the field as he has to try not to be laid off. I dont know why nintendo fans feel like they are entitled to getting what the more lucrative systems are getting. Its a business, not a trip down memory lane where we pad nintendo on the back and recite poems about how much the industry owes to them.

And I further think that it is ridiculous on the part of "gamers" to choose to miss out on good games just because the version on their console was "inferior".

If that is actually the attitude of Nintendo fans (which i doubt it is) then its their loss.
