A lot of people blame RE4 for beginning the downfall in the RE series, but it isn't all true.  I didn't really like the clunky controls, and weird camera angles. I think RE4 was the perfect mix for horror and third person shooter. If RE5 and RE6 were the same level as RE4 (third person shooter while maintaining the scary atmosphere) the series would still be scary. I blame it on RE5.

Nope. If anything, RE4 brought much need change to the series. It is sad that it departed so much from actual horror. I blame CoD sales.

Then again, RE Revelations for 3ds was pretty epic, soo....

How big was COD between the release of RE4 & 5?

 

I can see COD influencing 6 though.

As a die hard fan who played the original PS1 game AS IT RELEASED... I can assure you, RE4 was the end. Yes, it was a great horror action...ACTION game... but it was not survival horror. RE1-CV were all in the same style. RE4 was a completely different game. It should have been a new IP imo and if they were going to stop making true RE games then they should have done just that and killed the franchise because it died the moment RE4 launched anyway.
