Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is this Gen of Consoles just WEAK?

Looks at driveclub and gran turismo 6 nope no difference to be found XD. These threads are starting to be annoying if you can't see the difference, changing from tv size or buy exclusive eye candy might be the solution to be impressed. Because I can't believe anyone who wasn't impressed with uncharted 4.

For open world difference compare the infamous games. I am sure the same goes for horizon 2.

Indeed. Buy GT6 now, you're lucky to be playing the same day with the long install and slow patches. Last time I started it up, it took 2 hours before it was ready to play. No background downloading. Loading cars and races still takes very long. DC, play straight away, race loads in 15 seconds. To be fair, GT6 has working online :)

Openworld games have been bigger last gen with TDU and Fuel. Not anywhere near as detailed or smooth as Infamous and Horizon 2 though. KZ SF still made my jaw drop, same as the light effects and details in DC, particle effects in Infamous SS and the crispness and detail of flower on ps4. The MADDER sound design of KZ SF added a lot to the experience and would not have been possible last gen. It's never been this good to be playing with a 1080p projector and surround system.

I think this generation is the death of graphics - as in, people are starting to no longer be impressed by great looking games anymore. I'd say any console that attempts to be just a more powerful version of its predecessor in the next generation will fail hard.

Isn't the PS4 really just trying to a more powerful version of the PS3?  Thats not failing hard is it judging by sales.

I think peoples judgement is clouded also.  You can think when you play games on XB1 or PS4 that its not that much of an upgrade.  But when you back and play some of the games again that are maybe only a few years old, the difference is absolutely night and day.  I'm not saying the old gen games are bad, they are far from it but they dont look anywhere near as good as now.  I blew the cobwebs off the 360 last week and had half an hour with New Vegas and Darksiders 2 and they both look downright horrible compared to what we have now.

Take 360 for example. Go an look back at games like Call Of Duty 2, GUN, Perfect Dark Zero, King Kong, Oblivion, Far Cry Instincts....the list goes on. All of these games look absolutely horrid when compared to what came out on the system a year later. And the games that came out a year or two after that made them games look rubbish and so on and so forth.

Condemned was amazing, same for cod 2, but it was not just graphics, Kameo for example had like the first hour a battle against a group of enemies,  not 10 enemies,  not 100 enemies but +1.000 enemies and that was amazing and not possible on the Xbox/PS2/GC..

Nope, high-end PC GPU's these days are just power hungry beasts. PS4's gpu actually consumes more power than PS3's RSX did back in the day.

i can't wait for uncharted 4's first gameplay trailer so everyone can just shut the fuck up..

I would give it a few more years before making any assumptions

I agree.  I was merely trying to point out that games at the beginning of a console cycle generally cannot hold a candle against games made further in.

As good as COD2 was to play, and condemned for that matter, they look very very outdated if you were to compare COD2 to say Black Ops for example.  Or compare Condemned to maybe Alan Wake.

Both the Xbox one and ps4 will blow away horizon 2, infamous etc in 3 years. Titles like uncharted 4, quantum break, halo 5 gears 4 will destroy games out now.

This gen is no different than previous gens. Resistance 1 and perfect dark zero looked hardly a gain at all on previous gen. Consoles have never been PCs

I am not sure i buy into the "it'll blow them away" theory about later genereation games.  Last gen, that was the case becasue the totally different architecture of the systems.  This gen, the X86 architecture is very similar to last gen and the video cards and processors are nearly identical to their off the shelf.  I don't see the games getting a lot better over time.  Sure, the first party Sony titles will look pretty good, but that will be a design decision more than anything.

Xbox one is over 10x more powerful than 360. In perspective dreamcast was 10x more powerful than n64. Add to that the gpus in this gens console have a lot more effects techniques available than last gen as well. It will improve greatly.

I think they are powerful enough. They should play games with PC level effects ( at high quality, not ultra) at 1080p for maybe two more years. After that I suspect they'll look like medium level PC games at 1080p/sub-1080p. For most people who only have 1080p displays, that should be good enough. At that time, mid-ranged gaming PC's should be able to do the same graphics at higher framerates and 1440p though, and high-end PC's at 4k. The interesting thing about PC's is that the prices for their components to achieve console quality graphics are decreasing immensely. You can buy an r9 280 for $150 and it will exceed anything the consoles put out, for example. In 2007, that wasn't possible. That is why console gaming seems to not have gone so far, it's losing its edge in price-per-performance.This is especially true when you consider the cost of an online subscription and how long its performance will last you versus a PC, while also considering upgradeability of PC's has become easier and cheaper.
