If you have the cables and hardware to connect your Wii U to your HD monitor on your computer desk, you need to try it. Especially for games like Pikmin 3 that displays different things on the TV/monitor and GamePad.

Why? If your monitor is on the same desk as your GamePad, you can place the two next to each other.  Additionally you can easily reach the GamePad if you are only using it as supplementary controller. For example, Pikmin 3 lets you use the GamePad's touch screen to move a Pikmin captain you aren’t controlling. Otherwise, you can only control one captain at a time. The GamePad also displays the level's map screen which is not only detailed but changing dynamically to every action on the monitor screen in real time. If you can place your GamePad next to your monitor, you can easily look at these two screens at the same time.

Unfortunately this set-up isn’t for everyone (small desk or the lack of cables and an external sound system with speaker) but if you can, you’ve got to try it. The proximity of the PC monitor and you GamePad screen dramatically improves game play experience.

Here's a visual aid example from Mario Kart 8:

By having both screen on the same desk 1-2 feet(s) away from you, you'll notice and enjoy a better experience.

Edit: The GamePad actually has a head-phone jack  as well, so a sound system isn't even necessary for some of these games like Pikmin 3.

I believe you, but I don't have a 1080p monitor.

So, turning your wiiU into a HDS?

It's really better to have the gamepad up next to the TV. And not just enable the map on the TV? I could connect my Wii U to my PC monitor. But my TV is right next to my PC. So it really doesn't matter lol.

Yeah I guess it depends how far away each screens are. But TVs are generally several feets away from you. A monitor on a desk only 1-2 feet away.

Since the update, the Mario Kart 8 example doesn't really work anymore now that you can have the map on the television screen.

Your 4K monitor will work too.

OT: I haven't tried this, but I prefer playing games which utilize the Gamepad with the Gamepad in hand. Will try with Pikmin.

Oh you mean that one that I don't have? Yea, i'm sure it will be fantastic lol

But seriously, how much better is it. Because I often encouter that problem when the TV is too far from the gamepad and my eyes have change depth perception in a split second which is annoying. I might just buy a monitor for this...

So for Pikmin are you also using the Wii mote? The Wii mote/ Gamepad is the best option for Pikmin 3 but in my experience using the Wii mote when you are very close to the TV screen/monitor can be somewhat problematic.

I'd rather have the 55 inch view, Gamepad on my left hand and wii mote in the right.
