I'd disagree, the bloaters were pretty cartoonish and a bit too comical to be scary for me.

Ammo wasn't much use against regenerators in RE4 before you get the thermal scope, and even afterwards, the small/moving weak points, your slow rate of fire, and claustrophobic arenas meant they remained a threat. And then there's the Garradors, stalking you by the sound of your movements, who you had to get behind to damage.

RE4 lacked the stealthy elements of TLOU which only helped highten the tension the player feels. That and the fact that the AI was much better, makes this a very easy win. Gamers universally accept this as well as reviews and sales have shown so far.

Not being able to bypass the Garradors made them more scary, not less. The player was forced to fight them, and stealth did come into play when outmanoeuvring them, as they could hear but not see you.

In TLOU, the clickers not reacting to Ellie walking into them did deflate the fear and immersion a bit.

TLOU easily. Gameplay was great. The entire cast down to David the cannibal was amazing. The VA was best in class and the final scene was incredible. These two games aren't really comparable and I get the feeling that only someone who hasn't played TLOU would really award it to RE4.

At least Ellie was in the equation. Ashley could be left behind in a dumbster and that would be that. Ellie at least helped you and that felt very real. Ashley was constantly being carried away while screamed.

Ashley was in the equation very much; you couldn't always hide her, you often had to protect her, and she ducked or moved behind you when you aimed so as not to get in your line of sight, something AI in most modern games can't get right. Her being grabbed upped the tension and challenge, as you had to worry about saving her as well as keeping yourself alive.

I think Re4 is better, those the last of us has a better story. RE4 was so creepy lol.

Lets be straight here. RE4 defined a generation, everything done in RE4 was new or very hard to do at the time. TLOU is great in its own ways but it didn't offer anything new to the gaming world, it was just a well made game. RE4 at the time with the Hardware limitations was completely mind blowing where as TLOU wasn't exactly the best looking game of its generation and it also had the help of next gen hardware to achieve its great story telling. RE4 was more of a game and still today is mind blowing in every way, So is TLOU but ill give me votes to the game that defined a generation, and that's RE4.

Almost always there were dumbsters around. A lot of the time she would get kidnapped leaving you to control Leon alone. So she wasn't as much as a participant as Ellie was.

It's not even close IMO; The Last of Us is ok, but Resident Evil 4 is far better.

The dumpsters were virtually absent from the castle and weren't abundant even in the island and village sections.

Ellie's role as a participant was hampered a bit by the fact that in certain sequences she visibly broke the rules of the game world, like being invisible (and intangible) to the clickers.
