Forums - Music Discussion - Are metal heads just hipsters in black?

Think about it:

Anything gets popular, they suddenly don't like it... the elitism... the superiority complex... the way they're "non-conformist", yet still similar to each other in clothes and behavior (i. e. conforming)... the close-mindedness and their adamance in denying it... their insecurity...

Just a theory.

Not really... metal heads enjoy metal whether it's popular or not. I'm honestly surprised hipsters aren't big on metal though since its not very mainstream nowadays, especially in the US. Seems hipsters just can't give up liking "indie" bands that aren't really indie.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Dumb mother******... watched south park and goths again? last time i checked,  metal heads don't care about pop and shit.. but it's not us who makes it all a big deal, like the shit you are doing now

Its interesting how different the "hipster" stereotype is from the "hipster" definition. The hipster stereotype is like a person who steals stuff from a bunch of different subcultures, like nerd glasses, plaid and stuff like that (see: Idea Channel's Are You A Hipster? for more talk on this) where the definition is someone who likes things for not being popular. I guess they kind of line up, but its still strange to the point where saying someone is a "hipster" holds almost no meaning.

@OP: Metal Heads like metal. Sometimes that like may derive from some sort of anti-conformist sentiment, but I think most people who could be called "metal heads" just genuinely like the music. Kinda unfair to accuse metal heads of being close minded and elitist. Honestly, we should recognize that these are all just stereotypes anyways and people tend to be more complex than simple stereotypes.

...this thread is weird

I do not understand this thread.

Some metalheads, not all, do bash other music tastes and "popular" bands that "sold out" relentlessly and without basis. Most of the ones I knew grew out of that mentality after middle school and are accepting of all music taste, focusing instead of their character and approach to music.

uuuhhhh??? As someone who listens to metal (a metalhead?) I don't see much of that.

What's the point here again?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

This.

Metal isn't all black.. that is the stereotype view that other people *sees* metalhead.  We are using normal dongeri jeans, white and grey shirts..etc etc.. but we ain't dressing up in any disney channel Dudes clothes with colors everywhere.

Metal heads don't dislike bands for going famous, but it depends on how they got famous. a band changes their style into pop-rock and suddently sky-rockets into fame.. they gave up and ain't playing the music we loved anymore. and there is no reason to support a band anymore with buying their new albums with songs we don't like.

Metalheads love Jazz, blues, classical, Soul, Rock etc etc.. We are more open minded to music then most Mainstream people, who tries to fit in with adjusting to everything new every week.. we can love the same shit for over 30 years, and we don't care for what is new.. we listen, we like? or don't like? It's all up to us... and we don't wanna jump in a trend, we are not trending for Hit songs.. people just like hits for being hits.. we love the music.. not the fame.

Remove this thread.. the only one being bashing or stereotyping badly here is you
