Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rating the Legacy of the PSP.

I am planning to buy a PSP this holiday, just to play some old games I've owed in the past and catch up on Valkyria Chronicles II&III. Since I feel I can't buy a system for just 5 games, I figured I'd see what other games are worth playing in its entire system cycle...

All I could say is WTF! It's classic games include:

2 God of War Games (Chains of Olympus and Ghosts of Sparta).

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions

LittleBigPlanet

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker AND Portable Ops

Valkyria Chronicles II&III

Castlevania Dracula X Chornicles (Includes Castlevania: SOTN and the OG Dracula X? 3 games for the price of 1?? Holy $#%@ing @#$%!).

Lumines I&II

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories AND a more PIMPED version of Chinatown Wars

Phantasy Star Portable 1&2

and much, Much, MUCH MORE!!!

I have to say I think I am going to be on the PSP for a while. IMHO just by the massive list of quality games I would rank it higher than ANY Game Boy, but lower than any version of the DS.

I think my ranking of it would look like:

1. Nintendo DS

2. Nintendo 3DS

3. Playstation Portable

4. Gameboy Advance

5. Gameboy/Pocket/Lite/Color

So where would you guys place the PSP in Gaming Handheld History?

P.S. I am really surprised it didn't sell more and not many people talk about it here! It's ashame the PS Vita couldn't follow in its foot steps...

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Code

<-----

One of my favorite FF games.  Btw its Crisis Core :P.

My ranking is:

1. Gameboy Color.

2. PSP. (sorry not sorry)

3. Nitendo DS

4. Nintendo 3DS

5. PSP Vita

6. PSP Go..................................................................................................................................

Anyway I agree with you, The vita sole poorly because the Nitendo( As with the Wii U) Had almost a head year start in the market (10 months to be exact). But if they were to release at the same time we would be seeing a critical change in numbers.

And No one talks About the PSP Go I wonder why........lol

Just to add to the list:

R&C Size Matters

Secret Agent Clank

Dissidia FF

KH BBS

Tales of Eternia

Tactics Ogre

Legend of Heroes Trials in the Sky

All the Ys games.

All dedicated gaming handhelds have been pretty damn good.

3DS
DS
Gameboy Advance
PSP
Game Gear
Gameboy
PS Vita
Arari Lynx

If Vita were backward compatible I'd rank it third.

PSP Go is THE single greatest console (both home/portable) ever made and probably ahead of its time.  I can see Nintendo copying Sony's idea in the future if things are looking more dull for them in the future.  If you're aware of the PSP Go's capability then I don't need to explain the reason why its the greatest.

I'd rank the systems I own like this:

1) DS

2) GBA

3) 3DS

4) PSP

5) GB/GBC

6) Vita

7) Game Gear

Hope you enjoy your PSP! Check out Daxter and Patapon, too, if you have a chance.

I love my PSP. Still have it on my desk.

Loco Roco was so damn awesome.

I plan to get a DSi or 3DS in the future to catch up on a lot of games I missed out on. Nintendo just never appealed to me as much as Sony :(

I am playing Valkyria Chronicles 2 right now, it is great. Also check it ou Silent Hill Origins and Star Ocean 1 and 2

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I think if the PS Vita was backwards compatible, it would boost sales a bit. I mean by not making it that way I feel they gave the finger to their 80mil + user PSP base. Retro gaming is big nowadays, people that want to catch up on 7th gen games (like me), would have bought the better piece of tech if it had backwards compatibility.

PSP Go was WAY ahead of it's time but that's not a good thing for it. PSP games take WAY too much memory to have a dedicated drive for it built in a console. Maybe when larger Hard drives get cheaper will another company capitalize on it.
