Forums - Gaming Discussion - This place needs a "Retro Gaming" forum

We had a thread. It failed after 100 posts. Was done by hutnick.

Probably because it got pushed to page 10 of threads after a few days of no posts, hence why a seperate forum makes sense.

I know it won't be as active as other forums but I really think it needs its own section rather than a thread. Some really cool stuff can be talked about when it comes to classic games and consoles and if its a thread under "Gaming Discussion" it will just get burried beneath the 50th "900p vs 1080p" comparison thread posted in the last 24 hours. I've never seen this retro gaming thread that supposedly failed...

I would recommend going to sites like Retroware, they have a lot of users who upload videos talking about their lovely retro games

Love their retroware video games history aswell:

check their site for more:

I gave up trying to talk about retrogames on this site ^^'

Heh, good suggestion...I go there all the time.

Otherwise, I may come to the same conclusion regarding retro gaming and this site as you...few threads I posted about retro stuff get like 1-2 replies and then they are burried.

I'm with you disolitude but the problem is, how much can you really talk about retro gaming? It certainly isn't enough to earn its own section in the forums.

You should change the thread headline / topic and make this the "Official Retro Gaming Thread", and post all those topics you listed here. I think that's your best bet.

There are much more topics to talk about than most people imagine. I could literally make 20+ useful and interesting threads right now about retro gaming...from new release games and their reviews on dead consoles to discussion about classic gaming consoles and why they failed, to "how to..." threads.

It may be the same 15 people posting over and over though as I know its slim pickings when it comes to classic gamers around here...

Any threads there would still get pushed back to really late pages on hot topics there as well. Only people that actually go to that section would see stuff there on the front page. Look at some sections of the forum and you can see threads that haven't been used in months still on the front page. That's what it would be like.

If there isn't enough demand for 1 thread why would there be enough demand for a whole section with multiple threads?

Cause it doesn't hurt anyone for it to be there? Doesn't hurt to ask either... If you build it, they will come?

I don't know how people navigate this site but when I come and click on forums, I only have PC and gaming discussion enabled. Dont care to see other forums and their threads as all that stuff is in hot topics frequently.

I think NightDragon has the right idea here. You could petition the mods for an official retro thread and then post links to all the retro threads in the OP.

I would certainly support you.

Yes! Petition! I already signed it in the future.

We can indeed try again to have conversations about retro games but if you make a thread like 'What is your favorite retro game' I am scared Kingdom hearts on PS2 will win :(.

Why so sure KH would win? Also is it really retro already?

It was more of a joke because on forums when you talk about retro games you see people mention dare to name PS2 games...  It is a good questions what is a retro game, for myself I use the 25 year rule;.
