Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U, the only Nintendo home console without a must have Mario platformer?

The last thing the Wii U needs is another Mario platformer, lol.

If anything really, it would have been far more ideal last holiday to have Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World for this summer. NSMBU + NSLU already filled the Mario platforming gap.

That said nothing was saving the Wii U ... it's just a flawed concept from the get go.

No it's not. Not even close. It was just a terribly flawed marketing and rollout strategy by Nintendo. Starting with that stupid, confusing name when it should have just been the Wii 2 or Super Wii all along. Or a new name entirely.

Super Mario 3D World goes back to the feel of Super Mario 64, however I am sure Nintendo has a true 64,Sunshine,Galaxy styled game in the works.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

That still doesn't really make sense for me. I tried a bit of the first half, it was alright but nothing special, so I traded it in. I don't see the point of slogging through the rubbish stuff just in case it gets better later on. A good game should have a good beginning as well as a good ending.

If you didn't enjoy any of the early levels you're clearly not a platformer fan and why are you playing Mario in the first place?

I really enjoyed Super Mario 64 and Galaxy though...

Same for other platformer games such as Crash, Spyro and Knack.

I guess it's just odd to me because as such a diehard platformer fan whose played so many over the years I can tell when the levels in these types of games are designed very well. And 3D World is just masterfully made levels all throughout.

Love 3D World, I think its a must have game for the WiiU. The level design in the game is awesome. Not sure why the hate.

Because it's not so big and packed of content like 64 and Galaxy are, which is a shame. Nintendo launched the title in the most inappropriate moment.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I completely agree that 3D World is an underwhelming game.

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

No love for Sunshine :c
but yea. 3D World is a must-have game for me.

I highly enjoyed 3D world, but I wouldn't consider it "Must-have" like 64 or Galaxy.

Whether there is a full-fledged 3D Mario depends on how much faith Nintendo has for the WiiU. They might pull a Twilight Princess and launch it on their next console alongside it being their last big game on the WiiU

3D world is the only proper 3d mario

Not big and not packed with content? I'm sorry but that can't be allowed to stand on the record. The game is jam-packed with content. To 100% (ignoring the beating of all levels with all characters which is artificial length) it is at least as long as both of those games you mentioned, and I'd say possibly more.
