Oh I meant the second Mario Galaxy which came out in 2010. My opinion is that without success of the Wii, we would have only received the first Mario Galaxy and no sequel. I remember with the N64, there were always rumors swirling about a Super Mario 64 2 but this never happened, I think the low console sales of the N64 make Nintendo focus on smaller projects for the N64(Mario party etc) whilst reserving a full-fledged 3D Mario for the next console. Just speculation though. I did play Maro 3D World and came out a bit unfulfilled really, it felt more like a quick co-operative multiplayer party/2.5D title rather than a true 3D mario platformer...

I consider 3D World to be a must-have Mario platformer, but each to its own I guess.

Just play 3D World, lol. I'm sure you won't create another hate thread after finishing World Crown.

I would rather play a true, full scale Mario 3D game.

Like Guitarguy said, 3D world is more a 2.5D game, with a cat gimmick and is multiplayer oriented. Nothing like the Galaxy game, Mario 64 or Sunshine. this isn't the same category of games.

3D World being the only 3D Mario released on Wii U would be almost equal to Hyrule Warrior replacing the nextZelda as the only Zelda game.

I really hope you are right and they do release a true 3D Mario platformer. That has the potential to move literally millions of consoles just like the Zelda franchise. The longer Nintendo wait however, the more marketshare and gamers are migrating over to Sony and Microsoft. In recent weeks we have seen the Xbox One surpass the Wii U by a very very large margin. No one is going around saying the Wii U has second place locked in anymore, where if you look back to just after MK8 launched, it was the general consensus. Nintendo's competition is really picking up. They had a whole year head start and failed to capture the market. Mario and Zelda are the top two franchises that really move Nintendo consoles and as of now, a Wii U Zelda game is closer than a true 3D Mario Wii U game, and Zelda probably isn't coming out until early 2016 at the least...

A true Zelda is definitely coming as it has been announced officially. But I am not very optimistic for a true 3D Mario.

3D World flopped for a Mario game and did not move console at all. It put the Wii U in a very bad spot last holidays and the console is still struggling to recover from it. I hope Nintendo really understand it flopped because it was not the game true platformer fans wanted.

Mario Galaxy 2 would be so hard to surpass and would need a massive work, unlike the cheap and quicly developped 3D World. It would be a killer app. Nintendo has to do it if they fund  big project games like Bayonetta or X who will sell way less.

3D World is a must-have Mario platformer, it's an unbelievable game and in style and gameplay an actual successor 3D to the old 2D games. True EAD quality.

However I agree it isn't a 'true' 3D platformer like 64, Sunshine and the Galaxies. Those are a different series altogether. I think we'll see one in that series still, there's even been rumors of it being in development already. I'm thinking it'll be Nintendo's big holiday-title in 2016, after Zelda has released the year prior.
