Forums - Sony Discussion - Polygon lowers DriveClub review score due to ongoing server problems

NEW! Update: 10/15/2014

Driveclub review update 1

While I was impressed with Driveclub's smart social media-inspired challenges and team-up mechanics, all of these elements have one major requirement: functioning online support. While online servers worked flawlessly with the lighter load prior to launch, they have more or less ceased to function in the disastrous week since the game launched.

According to developer Evolution Studios, the server problems are not just from high player load but tied into actual buggy server code in the game. Whatever the issue, we have not been able to connect to Driveclub's online options at all since launch day. This includes the multiplayer modes, challenges and clubs, the latter of which has vehicles locked behind it as well.

Driveclub still features solid racing without its online features, but the tour mode alone is not enough to pull in serious attention. Challenges and clubs are a core, necessary part of the game, and they are currently largely inaccessible. It's a shell of the game it's supposed to be. As such, we're updating our Driveclub score until such a time as we have evidence that the game's servers are consistently up and running.

5/10    (was 7.5/10)

Unconventional, but I do agree with them.

They "updating" their scores are probably the only thing thats good about the site, everything else, including their reviews and scores, are shit

Wow that's harsh. Their last score was a bit higher than most other sites. Maybe they thought they were being too generous.

Must be real bad when they can't even get servers up before release for a small press community.

Hard coded server/online issues fucking suck. Ruined three of my most anticipated games of last gen:

Twisted Metal
Gears 2
SOCOM 4

Oh cool didn't know this was a thing. Hopefully they can adjust their Bayonetta 2 score up once they admit that an author's fear of female sexuality shouldn't be reflected in a game's score.

So much for next-gen, eh. This "release unfinished products" trend is absolutely horrible...

So will it go back up to 7.5 when the online problems are sorted out? Seems only fair for a review score to reflect the experience gamers will actually have, so once the online crap is sorted out (assuming it will be sorted out), the score should reflect the fact that online is functional and thus the experience will then warrant the original 7.5.

Erm 23 reviews below 75 out of 61 total (Metacritic) is most now?

Weird, but it is what it is. Evolution studios dropped the ball on this one.

I don't like the idea of changing reviews at all, especially for reasons like online. If it's fixed in three days are they going to update it again? When does it end?

They should have got it right the first time.
