Ubisoft had a few of its staff visit a school to explain their work, with some truly interesting things revealed about the company who thinks 60FPS 'looks weird'. Someone asked the Ubisoft employees "what the hell happened with Watch Dogs", to which the Ubisoft employee, who was the 'Online Programmer' said that just before they release a game, they have to send a copy to console manufacturers, who tell them what to keep in the game, and what to take out.

But it gets better: the Game Architect said that they always try to aim for 60FPS, but due to "limitations", they have been settling at 30FPS for their latest games. He continued, saying that console makers are pressuring them into doing the same thing on PC. The Game Architect continued, saying that Ubisoft reuses as much code as possible, which could explain the similarities between a few of their games.

Someone else asked if the company was "aware of the negative responses of the recent decision to lock your games into 30FPS. If so, what do you think about that?". The Game Architect said that on consoles, and especially for something like Assassin's Creed: Unity, they have to choose between graphic fidelity and smoothness. 'timois', who made the thread on Reddit, said that "he implied that MS is making them lock the framerate on PC too".

If we end up seeing Ubisoft locking their games at 30FPS on the PC, we're going to see a really big backlash from consumers. I seriously can't see the company doing this, but after all of their biggest games being locked at 30FPS on consoles, and the company saying ridiculous things like 60FPS 'looks weird', I wouldn't put anything past them at this point.

You can read my thoughts on it here, or listen to my beautiful Australian accent raging about it in our latest video podcast.

Didn't see another thread. Please lock if old.

Thoughts? So all the talk and spilled milk over parity in AC Unity, and it turns out both Sony and Microsoft are the ones enforcing it? Bizarre.

It could be true, but I find it weird that people use a reddit poster as a reliable source.

Edit: Yes, he has a picture from Ubisoft in a class, but he could still have made up that story, and it comes from a heavily biased PC subreddit, so yeah...

I find it pathetic if it is true, but I don't see it as a problem for Personal Computers gamers when there are mods.

It was confirmed by someone on GAF as well, who supposedly goes to the school in question.

Still not believing it as 100% fact, but seems reliable. I think the mods on GAF would require the junior who posted to provide some proof.

Ubi is just batting a thousand recently aren't they? "nah, 30 fps is better than 60 fps, not worth the effort" to "well...we want to do 60 fps, but console makers won't let us..."

Which is it?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Nintendo pressuring Ubisoft to downgrade PC games confirmed.

It sounds strange but it could be true. I've recently noticed that games either have incredibly steep requirements for PC and require a really nice rig to match/surpass xbone/ps4 and some games are locked at 30 FPS (Evil Within) and we're given some cheap excuse

Sony/MS have to be feeling the competition coming from the PC.  In fact I've almost completely written off the two systems because I have a nice rig, although I'll be getting a PS4 eventually just to play bloodborne and maybe a few other exclusives

Saw it. But I didnt posted because the source didnt seem reliable. Plus I dont believe this can be possible.

I dunno it feels a bit off for such news to be taken from a PC site, it reeks of bias, what we want is an unbiased view otherwise we're just going to end up with confirmation bias.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Sounds like something MS would do. When Sony was behind on multiplats PC games weren't being held back until halfway through the gen when consoles were struggling badly. This politics seems to be primarily coming from MS and even Machinima was warning people of politics to gimp PS4 versions of games by MS because they were behind.
