Forums - Gaming Discussion - Google announce Nexus Player console - 1GB RAM, $99

Console market is still attractive. But no one wants to take a bigger bet or bigger investment like past. Everyone wants people to buy from their own network.

Honestly its that they know they cant compete, and publishers dont want to support 5 consoles and fragemnt the market to their own demise.

just got my Amazon FIreTV last month for 50 bucks. Well whatever lets see if this will be rootable.

this is NOT Apple. It has nothing to do with being casual. The FireTV is used as my MasterSystem Megadrive/Genesis NES SNES N64 PS1 Dreamcast GB GBC GBA PSP etc etc etc. bitch.

Btw I find it funny how everyone adopts Segas "wrong" ABXY button layout :)

Depending on what Series 6 is inside, this might not be bad at all...any more precise specs?

EDIT: It might be same SoC as in ASUS Fonepad 8, which is Atom + G6430...this is actually pretty OK, G6430 is in iPhone 5S and iPad Air.

Meh. Kinda half-assed. 1GB of RAM won't last too long for some of the bigger games, that's for sure.

what did u expect out of a $99 device?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

What games will this get? If its just android games then this will probably flop like google TV.

It's kinda funny but it doesn't actually say it uses Android anywhere on the page... But I'm assuming it uses Android or else it'll have almost literally no support in the long run. If it does indeed use Android, its games will be Android games - all Android games will run on it, and its games will all run on Android devices. Essentially all its games will be Android games in that case.

This is like an Ouya! with a proper media remote...

Now, I had an Ouya for a while, well I don't have one, I would have though that the next batch of these Android consoles would better adapted to the "console" related functions with way better GPUs (something that can hold a candle to an xbox 360 at least) and 2 or 4BG of RAM, so porting some games made with the PS4/XB1 in mind was something that could be seriously considered, even if the experience ended up slightly degraded, after all our XB1 owning friends assure us frame rate and resolution makes no difference at all!

It seems like every couple months they release one of these things... What's the point exactly?

You need Tegra K1 to have 360 comparable specs...which is not that cheap.

That said, Nexus tablet packs K1 (just like Xiaomi Mipad and nVidia Shield Tablet), but that comes at the price.

As for porting PS4/XOne titles...not going to happen, for more than just technical reasons.

Wow. I just realises I haven't used anything google related for over 2 years. I have a Nokia Lumia 930 which uses bing. I have an Xbox one which uses bing and a surface pro 3. It uses bing.

Can I get GTA 5 or halo mcc on this console?

Well that explains your post history

@italic I would take a risk a say yes...or maybe not.

Eh?

Is that your way of dismissing anything that doesn't fit tour agenda?

Has any of you bothered to look at the trailer? It doesn't even show the controller or the games. This isn't targeted at gamers. Get your head out of your arse.
