Now; people may dislike the topic I am going to discuss now. This has been discussed quite a lot but this didnt had its own thread.

Do you think GT4 car assets will carry over to GT7? I know many will dislike me for stating the obvious "standard cars" in GT series and I know they will be present in GT7. But I want to know honest opinion.

Sure, Quality + Quantity > Quality as stated by our forum members. And this is a good point. I agree.

But is it acceptable to have 2004 era game assets cars in a game that might release in 2016 / 2017? (Given the fact that GT4 assets "may" carry over to GT7).

I know this is a sensitive matter. But I wanted to have some open minded discussions. I am also a playstation fan but there is no harm in meaningful debate.

PS: Please dont derail the thread. Dont put other racers name that are solely in other platform. Thanks.

Well, as I see it, we have three choices:

1 - they could upgrade the art for everything they've done up to this point, which would probably delay the game
2 - they could cut standard cars
3 - they could leave them in

It's a pretty easy decision for me. I see no harm in leaving them in at all. Let the artists work on NEW cars that people will ACTUALLY DRIVE.

Will they be there?  Yes, gran turismo loves touting a high car #.  Is it acceptable?  At this point its gonna be impossible for them to update all those cars, I'd say add an option to disable the old cars and everyone's happy.

Yes they'll be there they already said that:

"I doubt that we'll be throwing away the standard cars," said Yamauchi. "Each car has its own fans. So I think we'll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available - but basically we're more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars."

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Depends. A lot of the "GT4 assets" have been upgraded over the years, and are now more akin to mid level PS3 assets. Like this:

If they continue to upgrade the older assets, i don't really have any problem with them being included. The model on the right, combined with a better render technique and improved lighting, would look perfectly acceptable on the PS4.

It will be interesting to see how the premium PS3 assets look on the PS4. PD put a lot of work into future proofing their premium GT6 assets, including added tech to the engine that we didn't even see in Forza 5 (and was functionally useless for a PS3 game :p).

I sort of wish they'd just hire some more people to spend time solely dedicated to turning the standard cars into premium cars... I mean, the difference between the two on PS3 was VERY noticeable (I was watching my dad play it yesterday actually, and wow, it just didn't look right at all!), so I can only imagine it looking much, much worse on PS4 if they bring the detail of premium cars up even higher...

I'm actually sort of disappointed in Polyphony Digital for their decision to keep standard and premium...

I'm sure they're going to upgrade some over time but, seriously, I doubt they ever pay an artist to upgrade the Fiat Panda Super i.e. '90 or Honda ACCORD Coupe '88.  The real choice is either cut or keep.

Just put the good ones, and use the data you collect online to see which ones people dont like and leave out them

Probably wont be happening.

It is a pretty easy decision.

a) 600 cars without standard cars
b) 1200 cars with standards cars

I will take b every time.

That is a reason why Forza 5 have only 200 cars and Turn 10 is close to three times the size of PD.

Turn 10 is three times bigger than PD and they delivered 200 cars in Forza 5.

No matter how people like to say here... upgrade 600+ cars will take almost a decade... each car needs about 3 months to be make in the hight quality that PD used for GT.

PS. The Premium cars were made with quality to be used in PS4 or ahead already... just take a look at the photo mode.
