Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Portable console gaming is dead

Yes the market has shrunk but that doesn't mean that it's going to die. There will always be a market of people (including kids) who want a real gaming experience on the go. In particular as long as Nintendo have Pokémon, I think they'll always have a market.

Google just announced the Nexus Player for $99 (Android TV device that plays games. The hardware is developed by ASUS. Runs Android naturally. Since it's Google. The gamepad accessory is $40). Coming November 3rd.

Nintendo is officially finished in the west. On the portable and home console front. Why buy a 2DS or a Wii U for your kids when you can get a Nexus Player and a gamepad for $140 and buy games for a few bucks, 99c or free to play with micro transactions. The Android ecosystem is huge and now Android has buttons.

Why did you post a gif Reggie laughing. You should have just posted a picture of the Nvidia Shield and the Nokia N-gage.

Its... like you have no idea how reality works, or why people buy a handheld. It certainly isn't to hook it up to their TV and stream to/from it. I am not sure how my commute on the trains, flights, or otherwise, would be made more entertaining by a *thing* hooked up to my TV, pretty sure my TV isn't joining me on my regular commutes or, really, ever anywhere. Tablets, meanwhile and of which I already have one, are not built for gaming or are more expensive (SHIELD) with cumbersome peripherals and still need streaming for bigger things.

The very (bad) logic you're using has nothing in particular to do with Nintendo only, it would just as well kill every home console.

I posted what I felt. I actually laughed, and I wanted to share that good feeling with the person who caused it. Not a bad suggestion though, maybe you could post them instead.

No its shifted to Mobile.
i can play bioshock , crazy taxi gta sanandreas and old pc games as well as indies on my Tablet and Phone
why would i need inferior hardware with games that 39$
while i can buy GTA Sanandreas for example $3 or $4

3DS hardware sucks much and iPhone and Android is much better than 3DS

Let's not get ridiculous here. You can't honestly be calling a phone a better gaming platform than the 3DS.

He only focused on graphical abilities. If one does that, sure, iPhone 6 blows the 3DS away. But as soon as you get to the depth of games and having actual, you know, controls? That's when it get laughable.

I'm as guilty as the next man as far as smart phones go. I've downloaded my fair share of little ios games. But anyone who thinks Badlands is better than ALBW? haha. Nope.

LOL. I was just teasing you. I actually like Reggie.

If 3DS is dead, then all dedicated console gaming is dead since the dead 3DS is the top selling system of this generation.

Also what exactly does "Nintendo should become a Google second party" mean anyway? Nintendo makes way more money than Google does when it comes to gaming. How would it benefit Nintendo to become a second party of a company that manufactures an OS for other carriers? I don't really see any business advantage here. That's like saying Nintendo should become a second party for Windows PC, except worse.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Only when it comes to Sonys handhelds. But this kind of bitter thread started by a sony fan isn´t that surprising. Rooting for a company seems far more important than reality it seems, so no surprise seeing this kind of behavior when PSV is about to die.
