Forums - Sony Discussion - bungie is happy with destiny's success

when you read a title like that, what is your immediate thought?

i guess to most people it might be that bungie is happy with the sales this game has accumulated in the amount of time since its release. and i understand that perspective, because i guess thats what it's all about.

but to be honest, when i read that title in the news bar today.. my first thought was the reception of it by gamers. i guess thats where my mind is stuck. in the past when the measure of success was building your brand by making great games. it makes me sad to see that bungie really couldnt care less that the reception was way below what you could reasonably want for a game of this calibur. do they even care that most people were underwhelmed by this? or is it really about how many dollars they can make off of it?

i guess its about how much they can make off of it.. thats fine. if thats their bottom line. but i really do think they should be disappointed that the reception of this game wasnt very good. if i were in charge of destiny and poured that many resources into it, yes i would want to make a profit, but damn it would i want people to love the game. i feel like something has been lost, and i hope that they take what people have said about this game, learn from it, and really just try harder next time.

of course they are going to be happy. 3.2 million players daily and the biggest new ip launch in history.

was that because the game was actually any good, or was it because they put more resources into that game than any developer has put into a game this year? this is what im talking about. how are we really going to measure success, here. yes, 3.2m players is successful, but the reception was terrible and it just goes to show that you really dont have to make that great of a game to get droves of people on the servers. its scary to me.

3.2 million playing dally is huge and they can't be more happy.

The game is amazing too and they are working to make it even better every week... if you enter in the community feedback you will see the Bungie reception is pretty good and they are listening the community.

And opposite to some guys here that things the game is being traded, or it have low content, or it is a trash I believe it is right now GOTY 2014.

It is the best and most fun game launched in 2014 until now.

Well, they made money, whats there not to be happy about coming from the Dev's side? If I made a product that had average reviews but it sold a shit ton regardless, I would be counting my money all the way to the bank with my high class hookers in my lambo

Makes sense. It sold tonnes, and looking at the stats people love it.

Who cares if some people complained, they are just the highly vocal minority. Fact is lots of people are still playing it and enjoying it everyday.

well, i hope thats true.. most people i have talked to were into it week 1 and by this point have told me that they see it for waht it is. lackluster and repetitive. i only have one friend (out of a ton who have it) who is still on it and loves every second of it. so i dont know. i just hope bungie values how people view their games more than it seems like they do.

A lot of people wont be coming back for Destiny 2, unless they change the game to have a rich story and a meaningful reward system.

Nothing to scare here.

Gamers will play the games they like... and they like Destiny because it is a great game... there is no mistake here.

People that don't like it is due the taste and genre... it is not about the game itself... for example I prefer to have Destny games every year than Assassins Creed for example... the taste of the gamer are divided and it is good.

They created for me the next big thing in games... others companies will try the same after it success.

PS. Where you guys get this "reception was terrible" is weird because everybody I talk is enjoying the game... maybe my friend list match more with my own tastes
