If it's 100k over in the US and 250k under in the rest of the markets, it's still under tracked so who gives a shit?

For instance X360 is about 1 million overtracked here in the US according to NPD but's it's total lifetime numbers are fine. Maybe we should all start bitching about that then?

Halo MCC is going to be biggest in the USA and if pre-orders are to be believed it's not heading for huge numbers. Still 6 weeks to go of course so lots can change. But not being at 100K pre-orders with 6 weeks to go is not particularly good for Halo. At 7 weeks out Halo CE anniversary was at 186K pre-orders. MCC is almost 1/3 of that at 6 weeks out. Are you trying to say that MCC having slightly more than 1/2 the pre orders on a system with 1/16th the install base is a bad sign for MCC? Objective information is rather useless when you overlook the fact that base number of users is different. As a % of users who have the MCC preordered it is 8x more successful than the Halo CE ann.

What I meant with China was to them it isn't a rehash of stuff they've played before, it is the first time there is a console sold in their country which will have Halo on it, in any capacity and they get the full story of Master chief right up til Halo 5. Amazing value and content for those gamers.


It's 1/3, and Do you really believe Halo MCC will be clear to be sold that fast and that people there never played Halo when they had computer forever and grey market?

I have no idea what this post means beyond the 2nd use of the word "and" Do you think they played Halo 3 + 4 on the PC? I don't understand?

Regarding Halo being cleared for sale in China, fairly unlikely for a good few months unless MS get really envolved with getting it pushed through.

edit - Thinking, none of these games have been on PC Halo CE anniversary and Halo 2 Remake were not on the PC.


You do realize that consoles have actually been available in China for years, right? Sure, they were officially banned, but there were stores that had imported versions, and when we get right down to it, there are Gray Market, unsanctioned Xbox Ones and PS4s there as well. That's part of what makes the Chinese market so challenging, because from what I've heard, the unsanctioned, gray market Xbox One is cheaper then it's official version, (because with the official ones, Microsoft has to split the money and profits with their Chinese partner company in the region) and has a more expansive library, because it doesn't have Chinese region locking.

So no, Chinese gamers have had the opportunity to play Halo games, if they picked up an imported Gray Market console over the past decade. Whether they CHOSE to do so is another matter; since these are unsanctioned units, there's no way to keep track of how many Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo consoles have been bought over there, and by extension no concrete way to measure levels of consumer interest.

People saying the numbers could be adjusted up to suit the XB1. If anything they should be adjusted down as it seems the chinese launch was chillier than first thought.

They now hold the cards and will prob get a nice big boost early next year when the PS4 launches. When I say big I mean like 100k but for a once off boost that's big and it's a sucker punch to those playing catch up.

This was the X1's best chance at getting at least one weekly win. Not only did it had China, but it also had Forza Horizon 2 and it still couldn't beat the PS4. Also, had it not been for China, X1 sales would be dangerously close to going below 100k again during one of the months where "the real battle is". (The battle is really September, October, November, and December" ~ Phil Spencer)

good point. i never thought of it like that. jesus how is it going to win MCC week if it couldn't for the critically acclaimed FH2 and a decent boost from China plus they were still getting a little boost from week 2/3 of other tier 2 countries.
